  • Strawberry lime chia jam

    • NicoleBrown on July 23, 2024

Did a 1/2 batch to use up some mushy strawberries in the fridge. I’ve made a few chia seed jams, and I wasn’t sure this one was going to be a repeater after taking it off the stovetop, but it definitely improved the next morning!

  • Whole wheat weekend waffles

    • NicoleBrown on August 15, 2024

We’ve made this one often! An easy, go to waffle recipe.

  • Layered Mediterranean hummus platter

    • gamulholland on March 29, 2024

I made this exactly as directed, because the parents presumably needed something at a kids’ event, and it was simple, delicious, flavorful, and disappeared. Served with store-bought pita chips. Adding a P.S. in February 2025: I made this for dinner and my husband loved it and asked me to make it more often. He’s the one who cooks all the meat-based dishes in our house, so it’s great to find a veg-based dinner that he loves. Served with whole wheat pita chips.

  • Mixed greens with peaches & balsamic maple vinaigrette

    • debakken on August 27, 2025

What a delicious way to enjoy late summer peaches. The balsamic maple vinaigrette was what made this salad so special. I used a white balsamic, since the recipe didn't specify, and I think it was a good choice for this salad. I subbed pecans since I had plenty of them, and I toasted them briefly. I didn't add the corn because it seemed an odd combination with the peaches--as much as I love summer corn, I just wanted the peach flavor to shine through and it did.

  • Tangy cucumber & onion salad

    • hbakke on July 26, 2023

Not very exciting, but a good way to use up excess cucumbers.

  • Lemon & pepper green beans

    • hbakke on November 06, 2022

Nicely lemony green bean side dish. The fumes from the red pepper flakes hitting the hot pan were unpleasant and cough-inducing, so beware.

  • Multigrain sandwich loaf

    • hbakke on July 12, 2023

Very nice wheat sandwich bread with a soft crumb and crisp crust.

  • Smoky red lentil stew

    • Ajammies on May 03, 2023

Very good. Make sure you use good paprika (rancho gordo has delicious paprika). We added 1/2 arborio rice to the pot instead of cooking separately to get all the flavors.

    • NicoleBrown on July 08, 2024

Made this multiple times. Definitely super smoky! A favorite from this book.

  • Burrito bowl with cumin lime crema

    • gamulholland on June 12, 2022

Like any bowl, this has multiple components, so it takes some pretty concentrated work while the rice cooks, but it was fresh and delicious. The black bean recipe embedded within it is something I’ll make to spruce up regular black beans in future— so good! The crema tastes a lot like tahini if that’s the version you use — I like tahini, but I’ll try the sour cream version next time to see if the other flavors come through more.

  • Red lentil coconut curry with cilantro chutney

    • hbakke on June 17, 2022

Nice lentil curry. My red curry paste was pretty bland so that affected the flavor of the finished curry. I would use a more flavorful paste if I made this again. I didn't really care for the cilantro chutney. It was very one note cilantro.

  • Classic vegetarian nut loaf

    • Dcampos on October 31, 2023

This is really good. I use less cheese and sub vegan ricotta for the cottage cheese with good results.
