Notes about this book

  • pitterpat4 on July 09, 2015

In the late 1970's I cooked from this book. My family had just been introduced to Chinese food and wanted to eat more of it at home. Even as a teenager, I found the recipes easy to follow.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Smashed cucumbers

    • lorloff on December 17, 2011

      Reduce the amount of vinegar.

  • Marinated mushrooms 1

    • nicolepellegrini on May 29, 2020

This was a tasty side dish to serve with a stir-fry. Very simple to throw together.

  • Basic stir-fried pork 1

    • Ledlund on May 12, 2018

I did this with onion, sugar snap peas, and shitake mushrooms. Flavor was too boring/bland for me.

  • Stir-fried chicken and peanuts 1

    • Ledlund on May 12, 2018

The recipe instructions involving the egg whites were vague. Basically you want to velvet the chicken before stir frying. Once I figured out that was the intent, the recipe worked great and tasted fantastic.

  • Steamed marinated scallops and ham

    • Lmastriaco on January 02, 2021

      Steamed in microwave

  • Stir-fried shrimp with peppers and tomatoes

    • debconnell on March 03, 2024

One of my favorite recipes! It's extremely simple but I increased all the amounts to 2 lb shrimp, 2 green peppers, 3 tomatoes, 3 garlic, 3 scallions, 1 c stock

  • Sherry-honey marinade for barbecued pork

    • jenniwa on September 01, 2016

Amazing! Used 1.5 lb pork shoulder, pricked to allow marinade to permeate. Great for fried rice.
