Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Zucchini, sausage & white bean soup

    • shelbstirr on October 23, 2025

This is a pretty standard white bean sausage soup but I’ve never thought to add zucchini and it was a nice way to use the last of the season. I used canned beans added some red pepper flakes.

  • Pork chops with cranberry-Port sauce

    • Mliston on February 18, 2026

YUM! This one is going into the rotation. Used cherries because I couldn’t find cranberries. So easy and just perfect!

  • Pumpkin pot pie with sausage and kale

    • shelbstirr on January 18, 2025

I will make this again, very comforting meal, I feel like the winter squash is a bit of twist on a standard pot pie. The only change I would make next time is to season the ground pork with the sage, salt and pepper before cooking rather than adding the sage to the general filling mix.

  • Marinated beet and bread salad with fresh herbs and goat cheese

    • shelbstirr on January 18, 2025

This was really delicious! I didn’t have much dill to add, looking forward to adding more next time. The salad was even good as leftovers the next day.

  • Mushroom hunter's stew

    • Mliston on February 17, 2026

Very hearty and flavorful. I used a mix of cremini, shiitake, and beech mushrooms. I only used 1/2 cup of cream - it was plenty to make the stew super creamy. Definitely a make again!

  • Honey braised turnips and greens with bacon

    • shelbstirr on January 18, 2025

This was so flavorful, I even enjoyed the turnip greens in it which I was a little unsure of. I’ll be growing even more turnips this year so I can make this!

  • Pumpkin and sage frittata

    • shelbstirr on September 28, 2025

Very good! I made this with a butternut squash. I was probably a bit scant with the sage, would love to use more next time. The recipe didn’t specify salt, I added 1t to the eggs which I think worked well.

  • Roasted cauliflower with bread crumbs

    • amy_9scy2c on May 18, 2026

Very tasty. Our cauliflower only needed about 15 minutes to cook. We sprayed olive oil on the cauliflower in place of the cooking fat. We substituted Zatar for thyme, tajin for pepper flakes and used panko bread crumbs.

  • Baked apple oatmeal

    • FlowerGold on February 21, 2026

Very good. Loved that it wasn’t too sweet. Baking rehydrates the dried fruit and mix well with the apples. I used dried cherries and dried cranberries - liked the combination. Used the standard small individual ramekins- it filled them up. Put the ramekins on a parchment lined baking sheet so it took a little longer to cook. They was a marginal amount of run over but glad I had lined the pan. Unless there is a reason for the individual servings I will bake in a pan next time. The batter is lumpy and runny so a bit of a pain the fill the ramekins with a mix of oats and liquid- but the ramekins look nice. Definitely a redo.

Walnuts overpower everything else. Will make again because the concept is solid, but would swap for sliced almonds or another less potent nut.

  • Rustic lamb stew

    • Mliston on February 24, 2026

Really good! Halved the recipe and it worked out well. On the sweet side - I might add in some Aleppo pepper next time. This one is getting added to the rotation.

  • Meatloaf with mushroom gravy

    • Mliston on March 05, 2026

So good! The meatloaf was moist and flavorful and the mushroom gravy was outstanding!

  • Shepherd's pie

    • shelbstirr on January 24, 2026

Great standard shepherd’s pie recipe! I used half the butter to cut calories but I bet the full amount would be amazing. The recipe oddly says it is 8-10 servings but for me it was 6.

  • Pork, butternut, and bean stew

    • shelbstirr on May 19, 2025

I really enjoyed this stew, it’s rich and hearty. The long oven cook makes the pork really tender.

  • Butternut squash chowder

    • shelbstirr on April 24, 2026

      Simple, good, would make again

  • Braised leeks with walnut bacon crumble

    • Mliston on March 05, 2026

It’s all about the crumble on this one! So simple but so much flavor - great as a side to seared scallops.

  • Butter beans with green sauce

    • Mliston on February 19, 2026

Really simple and very good! Used canned cannellini beans and it turned out great! Went well with roasted chicken.

  • Summer watermelon picnic salad

    • FlowerGold on March 20, 2026

Very good. Nice mix of flavors, sweet savory and salty. Simple perfect for summer. Definitely a redo.

  • Sheet pan tuna, tomato, and sauerkraut melts

    • shelbstirr on November 05, 2025

      Really really excellent tuna melt.

  • White bean chicken chili

    • FlowerGold on March 18, 2026

Was bland but in fairness I only used part of a poblano pepper because I can’t take much heat. Used Cajun seasoning which helped. Was more like a soup than a chili. Would start with just the chicken broth and add water as needed.

  • Honey jalapeño corn bread

    • NicoleBrown on August 19, 2024

Delicious! I skipped the jalapeños because I was feeding three kids (sad. I love jalapeño haha). Everyone loved this and there are no leftovers. Will make again!
