This is possibly the most used book in my collection for interesting family food. I was surprised I must admit...

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Mummy's spinach & cream cheese quiche

    • carly_ztnb88 on May 10, 2026

Have made this several times now, a lovely quiche. The cream cheese and egg mixture makes it a little richer than most recipes and it tastes wonderful.

  • Salmon marinated in soy sauce, coriander & ginger with fennel

    • NickiD on February 03, 2021

No fennel so used a sliced onion instead. Used double the marinade quantities

  • Rice Krispie chicken

    • carly_ztnb88 on May 19, 2026

Great way to make chicken nuggets. Nice and crispy, simple ingredients and kids love them. We like them in wraps for an easy week night dinner.

  • Fantasy cake

    • Cati on September 05, 2019

Don’t think I will repeat . Was OK straight from oven with cream but dry with a course crumb when cooled. She says to cook for 1 to 11/4 hours, seemed a lot so checked at 50 minutes, not done so left for the one hour. Perhaps 55 minutes would have been better. However have made similar type cakes just mixed with a spoon and not requiring creaming of butter and sugar in mix master which were easier and better.

  • Leek & potato soup

  • Chicken olives with Parmentier potatoes

    • Kathyn61 on January 18, 2020

I made this recipe to the letter but the stuffing was a horribly dry claggy texture - I’d hope it would be more mousse like but realised after that there’s nothing to make it so. I think there must be an ingredient missing! As there’s no suggested sauce with the dish it means the whole thing is dry. The taste wasn’t great either with the chorizo overdominating the flavour of the chicken. I definitely wouldn’t make it again.

  • Slow-cooked chilli con carne

    • NickiD on February 01, 2021

My go-to chilli recipe. The stewing steak is so much better than using mince and the addition of chorizo is delicious. Always popular and great for a crowd.

  • Goat's cheese & red onion tart with thyme pastry

    • joneshayley on December 01, 2019

Served these as a starter to a festive Sunday dinner- they were lovely , the red onion chutney is a lovely sweet against the salty cheese, whilst the Lon dressing of the leaves cuts through the richness. I’d put more thyme in the pastry next time.

Publishers Text

When actress Lisa Faulkner won Celebrity MasterChef in 2010, it was the culmination of an emotional journey that began with her mother's death from cancer when Lisa was 16. Lisa's clearest memories of her mum are of her cooking delicious meals for the family, and in recreating her recipes in this book Lisa is not just keeping her mother's memory alive - she is also able to pass on to her own daughter, Billie, the love of cookery she inherited from her mum. With evocative photographs and easy-to-follow recipes, you too can tempt family and friends with fabulous home cooking all year round. With anecdotal snippets from Lisa's life as well as invaluable personal tips, the recipes include dishes suitable for entertaining - My MasterChef Fish Stew, Pan Fried Scallops with Pea and Mint, Lemon Mascarpone Tart and Pistachio Biscottii - alongside failsafe family fare: The Best Fish Pie, The Perfect Roast, Nanna's Bread and Mummy's Christmas Cake.
