Belated thanks to the member who indexed this! I ordered a copy several years ago, spurred by Piebaker's comment, and have been glad many times to have it as a reference. Big help in creating syntheses from a range of sources because of trust in its reliability. Also, because of its size & scope, is the only printed source I have for some dishes (physical cookbooks here ~120, mags 40).

This is my go-to general cookbook. In an interview with one of the authors(http://www.poormansfeast.com/archives/a-conversation-with-jean-anderson.html), she says it took 10 years to write and test. I've never been disappointed in any recipe and I can't say that about any other general cookbook I've used. It has accurate meat roasting times and my favorite recipes for basic biscuits, pancakes and waffles as well as helpful variations. Many recipes are family favorites, such as the Sage and Onion Dressing. It has been a reliable resource for information about ingredients and techniques. Would like to see it reprinted so I can give copies as gifts. Special thanks to the member who did the index!

The classic most urgently in need of indexing among those on 100 or more Bookshelves, IMO. The obstacle is its scale, 4000+ recipes. Because pro EYB indexers can finish 15 or more typical books in the time it would take to do Doubleday, it stays low on the priority list until a good many more members who have it request indexing. Or until a particularly selfless member takes on the indexing.

Excellent general cookbook co-authored by the redoubtable Jean Anderson. Lots of good recipes! Deserves to be better-known!
