Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Cannellini, bacon and sage purée

    • uppity on February 18, 2018

      Very good, very easy.

  • Green pea and mint soup

    • saladdays on March 18, 2018

Easy to make from ingredients that I usually have in stock. A very fresh tasting soup that makes a satisfying lunch.

  • African peanut soup

    • SpatulaClark on March 14, 2020

Wonderful flavour. The peanuts really carried through the soup and blended with the other ingredients.

  • Middle Eastern fava beans (Ful medames)

    • Hansyhobs on October 11, 2023

I made this as a quick lunch using one tin from Hodmedods. It was a very easy recipe and really tasty too. We had the beans with spring onion, tomato, jammy eggs, flatbreads and coriander.

  • Punjabi chickpea curry

    • SpatulaClark on April 20, 2020

Symphony of flavours and simple to make, perfect for those who like some heat. Best with home-cooked chickpeas! I take author's suggestion and make it a couple hours ahead for the flavours to meld.

  • Flageolets with kale and crisped potatoes

    • SpatulaClark on April 20, 2020

A simple, well-blended trio that can be changed up to use what's on hand.

  • Moroccan chickpeas and meatballs

    • Nichill on February 06, 2025

Found some pork meatballs in the freezer and made the sauce to accompany them. Served with wholemeal couscous and green beans. A very straightforward delicious supper. Hadn’t saved the previous bookmark until trying to write this.

    • marcus_medn6v on April 01, 2026

Works very well with shop bought meatballs.

  • Black bean brownies

    • Polly_heck on February 17, 2020

Delicious, and very fudgy, but very soft even when cooked for longer than stated. Might be improved with a slightly higher bean content.

    • SpatulaClark on June 18, 2020

New favourite brownies, fudgy but firm. Plenty of room to play with flavour additions. Reduced sugar by half with no adverse affects.

Reviews about this book

  • Fuss Free Flavours

The main role for recipe books nowadays is as a source of inspiration: This book certainly fulfils this need, by showing that there is a generous space in our diet for beans and pulses.
