Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Blitz puff pastry

    • airwair75 on July 09, 2025

This recipe is easy if time consuming. The resulting pastry is easy to use and doesn't upset my stomach like the store bought does.

  • Jenny’s onion tart

    • Bessp on July 06, 2024

A simple, tasty, light lunch or supper. I used gluten free flour and crust, it worked great. Would be nice with any of the usual quiche fillings.

  • Diana Gabaldon’s cheese enchiladas

    • KCKB on June 18, 2023

Just made enchiladas for the first time with this recipe. They were tasty, although I will add more spices to my sauce next time. (I don’t have access to the brand of tomato sauce mentioned in the recipe that already has red chile pepper, so I was DIY-ing the spices). It also takes a bit of practice to get the tortillas to stay intact, rolled and arranged neatly - my first attempt was not the most beautiful to look at, but I was happy with how it turned out and will definitely make this again!

Made black bean and ground beef variations using this as a base recipe - turned out delicious!

  • Broccoli salad

    • KCKB on January 15, 2023

Very tasty! I made this vegetarian by skipping the bacon. As such, it does benefit from the addition of something crunchy and salty (nuts, pepitas, sunflower seeds, etc.). The dressing doesn’t need as much sugar as the recipe calls for as written - I like it with a generous tablespoon (down from 1/4 cup), so I suggest starting low and adjusting to your taste. You can also play around with using a different vinegar (apple cider, red wine, rice vinegar, etc.) and/or cheese (I like it with MontAmore). And if you happen to have them, some pomegranate seeds make a beautiful addition!

  • Fiona’s cinnamon scones

    • airwair75 on July 09, 2025

This is my go-to scone recipe. I don't use the topping, and cut the filling by about 1/3. I've also done blueberries + cinnamon sugar, blueberries alone, and candied peel with chocolate chunks + cinnamon sugar (amazing). I usually bake 2 and freeze the rest. After about 1 month, the frozen ones start to degrade. They're still good, but the texture is a bit off.

  • Chocolate biscuits

    • KCKB on January 15, 2022

Great homemade version of the digestive biscuits that are popular in Britain and Ireland! I have also made a plain version of these (no chocolate) and a version with dried cranberries and white chocolate for a tasty variation.
