Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Grapefruit poppy seed cake with hibiscus glaze

    • gootenbeez on November 27, 2024

This was delicious. I had to sub plain yogurt for sour cream 1:1 and it worked out perfectly. I don't usually make cakes in a bundt pan or make a syrup and a glaze (very lazy baker with a toddler) but this cake is worth it if you have the ingredients. It's not difficult and looks beautiful with a perfect texture.

  • Turkish coffee crumb cake

    • caillahess on February 17, 2026

Didn't have a springform pan so made in 8x8 pan instead. Super moist, coffee flavour wasn't as strong as expected.

  • Yellow birthday cake with whipped malt chocolate buttercream

    • cookingbychapter on April 02, 2025

this was just ok, I don't think I would return to this recipe.

  • Banana cake, two ways: without frosting

    • fultre on January 15, 2024

This is a nice simple banana cake with a light crumb, and the milk chocolate is a nice addition. This is the first recipe I’ve made from this book, and (rookie error) I neglected to look at the ingredients introduction to learn she uses Diamond Crystal salt. The cake was definitely too salty using Morton kosher; will halve the salt going forward.

  • Frosted apple-cinnamon oat cake

    • cespitler on October 29, 2022

This cake is fantastic. It’s moist from all the apples and the perfect crumb with the nuts and two apple textures. The frosting is super easy and full of apple flavor.

  • Summer berry buckle with crunchy sugar

    • cespitler on April 07, 2023

A simply beautiful, fruity cake. A great snack cake that comes together quickly.

  • Cannoli ricotta cake with candied pistachios

    • caillahess on September 15, 2025

This is SO good. That's all.

  • Earl Grey tea cake

    • Lepa on November 30, 2022

The method here was a bit odd and I was wondering if this wouldn't turn out but it did. The cake is a bit flat but it tastes very good. The Earl Gray tea is subtle but delicious. I used orange zest.

  • Brandied persimmon tea cake

    • eclairea on January 26, 2026

Oh my god this was so good. Don’t skip the apple jelly glaze at the end. Most of the persimmons I layered at the top sunk into the cake, but that’s okay. It was still delicious. Only had whole allspice and was too lazy to ground them, so I just omitted but added an extra 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon. Also did not have brandy but used the suggested sub which was cognac. Loved it. One of my new fave cake recipes.
