Stuffed bell peppers. We liked this version with dill in the filling and beef broth, sour cream and small amount of ketchup for sauce and more added dill. Will make again.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Smoked salmon and caviar blini (Blinchiki s ikroy)

    • Lepa on November 12, 2022

This is the first time I made blini and they were so quick, easy and delicious! I put them on a plate and let guests assemble their own by adding creme fraiche, dill and caviar. We drank ice cold Aquavit with it. This was such an elegant and easy appetizer!

  • Braised pork with gravy (Tooshonoye myaso s kartoshkoy)

    • Lepa on July 27, 2025

This was so rich and delicious. I served it with the suggested mashed potatoes, which was an excellent combination. I left the lid off for the last ten minutes so the gravy could thicken.

  • Stewed beef and potatoes (Zharkoye s govyadenoy)

    • nicolepellegrini on November 27, 2025

OK, I don't know what it is about this recipe, but it was absolutely FIRE and maybe the tastiest "beef" (I used venison) stew I've ever made! I couldn't stop hitting the pot for more of the thick sauce alone. Just a wonderful rich texture, not greasy (maybe because it was venison), lick-the-bowl clean flavor. Only other note I'd add is for the tomato sauce, I used a small jar of fancy tomato-with-truffles sauce I had on hand that added a very subtle truffle flavor, so I'd definitely try to recreate that in the future by adding some dried or preserved truffles even with a regular tomato sauce.

  • Navy-style pasta with beef (Makaroni po flotski)

    • lisari on February 09, 2025

This is pretty basic but quick and satisfying & just different enough. Doubled the herbs, used less pasta as I made it ahead & thought it would soaked up the sauce. Would make again.

  • Chicken meatball soup (Soup s frikadel’kami)

    • lisari on February 02, 2025

      Well-flavored, enjoyed by all.

  • Butter and sour cream mashed potatoes (Kartoshka puree)

    • Lepa on July 27, 2025

These mashed potatoes are a little bit different and very good. I was worried the onions wouldn't completely dissolve but they did. This was good with the braised pork from the same book.

  • Korean carrot salad (Morkva po Koreski)

    • nicolepellegrini on February 13, 2025

Wasn't expecting this to be the first recipe I'd try from the book, and it was...ok. Maybe not quite the flavor combination I was expecting, it didn't really taste "Korean" with the use of paprika and to my tastes needed more acid (I ended up adding juice of a lemon to brighten it up.) I also cooked the garlic with the onion as I can't eat raw garlic.

  • Cabbage and cucumber salad (Salat s kapustoy)

    • Lepa on November 12, 2022

This salad is so refreshing and delicious. It was the perfect accompaniment for a rich dinner of chicken paprikash with buttered noodles. I also make it frequently to accompany dumplings.

  • Apple piroshki (Yabluchniye piroshki)

    • Huongey on September 21, 2025

Loved this recipe! I made it exactly as written and it was delicious. Perfect dough and filling.
