Notes about this book

Solid recipes without soul. I read this book cover-to-cover, as I do all my cookbooks. I've made two recipes, and they've been solid. The lemon tart can't be beat. This book is great for a technician who wants solid, picture perfect recipes. However, this book lacks any sort of soul, personality, voice, or creativity that would draw me back to it.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Toasted milk powder and brown butter cookies

    • Xyz123 on April 08, 2024

I used freshly milled soft white wheat berries for these with no other adjustments to the recipe. I really liked the crispy edges and that they weren’t very sweet.

  • New York-style vanilla cheesecake

    • Kelli_L on December 19, 2023

      The most delicious, creamy cheesecake

  • Triple chocolate brownie fingers

    • bwhip on September 05, 2023

These are amazingly good. Super chocolatey - too much so for my wife, but I’m sure not complaining :). A few steps and a decent amount of time involved, but the results are spectacular, both in flavor and appearance. Not really difficult. Looking forward to trying many more recipes from this cookbook.

I brought these to a New Year's party and they were very well received by everyone. I made them a bit smaller and really could have easily cut them into smaller petit fours since they are so rich. These are a special rendition of a brownie. The whipped ganache, while not totally necessary, does help cut the richness to an extent.

  • Lemon marmalade tarts

    • ecarlin on May 30, 2024

Absolutely delicious! These are a bit labor intensive, so you'll want to start at least a day ahead of serving. You can make the tarts and refrigerate them for a day if you don't add the whipped ganache (do that right before serving).

  • Latticed apple pie

    • Astrid5555 on March 04, 2024

The dough is laminated, a dream to work with and makes for an incredibly flaky pie dough, almost puff pastry like. I prepared both the dough and the filling a day ahead and just baked it on the day when I needed the finished pie. Rave reviews from my guests.

  • Everyday sandwich loaf

    • Indio32 on April 06, 2026

Not bad....I think I over proved it slightly but apart from that a good easy standard loaf.

  • Oat and flaxseed loaf

    • bwhip on September 05, 2023

Excellent recipe, the bread turned out great! It does make a pretty small loaf. I have a larger loaf pan I use for making sandwich bread, and so i increased quantities by 50%, and adjusted baking time a bit. It was still pretty small for the pan. The flavor and texture were quite perfect, with just the right amount of crispy and chewy. I’ll definitely make this bread again, though I’ll probably double the recipe.

  • Whipped chocolate ganache

    • EmilyR on January 02, 2024

This takes a solid 24+ hours to chill to a whippable consistency. It’s almost like a chocolate mousse. I really appreciate that it’s not cloyingly sweet and it's quite versatile.
