Sauerkraut soup- This is really tasty. Recipe makes a lot.

  • Nancy402 on April 23, 2023

lamb Meatballs with Garlicky Labneh- This was delicious and looked great on a platter. Garlic confit was easy and adds a lovely mellow note. I made 16 smaller meatballs rather than the 6 large ones suggested. Next time I will cook entirely in the oven as the stovetop browning step is messy and doesn’t seem necessary with lamb, which browns nicely in the oven.

  • Nancy402 on April 23, 2023

Spicy Oven Charred Cabbage and Lemon- Really enjoyed this. There was more liquid than I expected when the cabbage was nicely charred at the edges, so I did not add lemon juice. Did not miss it.

  • Lepa on March 28, 2023

Paprika Sweet Potatoes with Lime Crema (p. 93). I bought this book up on a whim and the first recipe I tried is a winner that I will be sure to add to our regular rotation! I love when that happens. My sweet potatoes were very large and needed about 30 minutes. The contrasting flavors were delightful.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Every night salad

    • SpatulaCity on September 08, 2023

For me, too many onions. But otherwise, great salad! The herbs make it super fresh, and the dressing is beyond easy. Loved using tartar as a secret ingredient. The dressing comes out perfectly and isn’t too acidic.

  • Italian chop

    • SpatulaCity on September 06, 2023

Made for a wonderfully crisp and bitter salad - a perfect companion for the rich green lasagna also in this book! Didn’t have hazelnut oil so used walnut oil instead.

  • Raw corn and feta salad

    • SpatulaCity on July 23, 2024

Love this salad! It’s everything wonderful - sweet, crunchy corn, fresh herby basil, a touch of onion, and salty tangy feta. Personally I think the feta cream is too strong and overpowers the sweet corn, but to each their own. Next time I will omit the cream and maybe add a touch more feta crumble to the salad.

  • Celery with walnuts, feta, and dill

    • SpatulaCity on September 07, 2023

Really enjoyed this. A nice blend of crunchy, herby, salty, rich and clean. And took all of about three minutes to put together. Served alongside the harissa chicken as recommended, but thought it would work well as a pairing to many things.

  • Pan fried Brussels sprouts with lemon and pecorino

    • SpatulaCity on September 10, 2023

Overall really good flavor, but too difficult to char some of the sprouts without overcooking the whole thing.

  • Crispy potatoes over creamy tonnato

    • SpatulaCity on September 10, 2023

Delicious! Used parsley and subbed cilantro in place of the mint. The potatoes were difficult to consistently brown on the stovetop. I think next time it would be much easier and successful to roast the potatoes in the oven. But again the combo of crispy potatoes, tomato and those leafy herbs was fantastic and very easy.

  • Paprika sweet potatoes with lime crema

    • SpatulaCity on March 06, 2024

Very nice! Love the contrast of sweet with the tangy acidic sauce and fresh and herby cilantro notes. We’re whimps, so cut way back on the harissa, but even that little kick of heat is welcome. Super simple to put together and roast.

  • Shoulder season salad

    • SpatulaCity on September 10, 2023

Really enjoyable - how could beets and blue cheese ever go wrong? Used pre-cooked, red beets from TJ’s and de-seeded the jalapeños so it’s wasn’t too spicy. Think this could be pretty flexible - adding jammy eggs, chicken, roasted squash, etc. As is it makes a lot of salad! Halved the recipe and it will be enough salad for two days.

  • Lentil soup

    • Lepa on January 26, 2026

This is a very satisfying lentil soup. It is full of veggies and feels very healthy. It took an extra 5-10 minutes for the lentils to break down and I used an immersion blender to blend a small amount, which gave it a lovely texture. Definitely a repeat.

  • Fried cabbage with halloumi and jalapenos

    • Lepa on May 21, 2024

I liked this salad but some people in my family complained about the 'squeaky cheese". Not sure if I would make this again.

  • Green lasagna

    • SpatulaCity on September 06, 2023

Yum! Delicious! I used the refrigerated pesto from TJs and it tasted clean and fresh. The pecorino mozzarella bechemel was so tasty! The sauce as it would make for a nice Mac and cheese :) The recipe calls for boiling lasagna noodles, but I used the Barilla oven ready noodles and just sprinkled some extra water in there. All together it was rich and lush and silky. Will happily eat again!

  • Tomato roasted salmon

    • SpatulaCity on September 08, 2023

If you already have the garlic confit, this recipe is incredibly easy to put together. I question the baking method though. Broiling for 15 more than cooks the salmon through. I wonder if the tomato topping should have been added first, to protect the salmon? Next time I’d top with the tomato mixture, broil for 5-10 min, then finish low and slow so the salmon is nice and tender. The tomato mix is deeply flavorful, so if you think salmon is boring, this would be a great recipe for you!

  • Harissa chicken

    • SpatulaCity on September 07, 2023

Love paprika and love red bell peppers, so this recipe is a winner for me. Great flavor! My only qualms are the amount of sauce - it makes a lot! Should be served with rice or noodles to soak up the sauce, or maybe a flatbread to dredge through. Secondly, even though your brown and crisp up the skin, it turns soft again while braising. The chicken was also a little tough, and not quite meltingly tender. I think you’re supposed to cook thighs and legs to 185F to get that connective tissue to a high enough temperature to soften. Maybe would have a better texture if left in the oven longer instead of pulling when it reaches 165F

  • Steak salad with pepperoncini and green goddess dressing

    • averythingcooks on March 18, 2026

I made this dressing for romaine with sweet peppers & a mix of pickly things (using her idea of pepperoncinis & adding pickled matchstick carrots + pickled red onions). I appreciate a green goddess that doesn't call for avocado and we loved all the fresh herbs...in addition to the basil, parsley & dill called for, I added chives. I used the yogurt (other suggestion = sour cream) and this is a repeat for sure.

  • Dark chocolate and molasses cookies

    • bching on May 11, 2024

very good cookies, soft and chewy. They are large by design and ran together on the cookie sheet but separated easily with a spatula edge.

  • Dutch baby with berries and crème fraîche

    • SpatulaCity on September 04, 2023

Puffed up like a dream! Was so easy yet yielded impressive results. I let the batter sit for about 20 before baking. To top I made a strawberry compote and sprinkled on fresh blackberries. The whipped cream creme fraiche topping is so luscious and yummy. Excellent all around.

  • Pear cake

    • hbakke on October 11, 2023

Loved the lemon zest and nutmeg combined with the whole pears. I used peeled Bosc pears. As a (very) amateur baker, I'm never sure when to remove cakes from the oven. My cake was completely raw in the center at 35 minutes, so I would leave it in the oven longer next time.

  • Dukkah

    • hbakke on October 15, 2024

Tasted great, but I accidently blitzed it to death. Oh well.
