Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Strata

    • SugarTreeBaking on April 20, 2014

This was an Easter Brunch standout. It was easy to prepare the night prior, baked up puffy and was delicious. Will prepare again, looking forward to playing with variations.

  • Bacon, cheddar, mushroom, and tomato strata

    • julesamomof2 on May 25, 2017

I made this and the ham asparagus and swiss variation and this was declared the winner--bacon wins!

  • Ham, Swiss, and asparagus strata

    • julesamomof2 on May 25, 2017

I made this, along with the bacon variation, and while most preferred the bacon version, I like this one and thought it was a bit lighter (as if that's possible with bread + eggs + ham). Perfect brunch party food.

  • Caramelized-apple crepes

    • vegwithtastebuds on February 05, 2023

The recipe needs an overhaul. The crepes fall apart no matter how carefully flipped. As written, the batter is bland. Added 1/4 tsp each vanilla and cinnamon & 1/8tsp ginger. Increased salt to 1/2 tsp.

  • Chocolate waffles

    • vegwithtastebuds on January 29, 2023

Bland as written, even with top quality cocoa powder. 4 stars with changes below. Better with 4Tbs brown sugar, and 1/4 tsp salt added. Will up the cocoa powder to 1/3 cup next time p.89

  • Pineapple noodle kugel

    • kariholsberry on February 23, 2026

So. And husband really liked it. It was a little sweet for me.

  • Quick pear streusel coffee cake

    • LisaO on February 16, 2015

Very tasty. Nice size. It would be great with a tart apple or a combination. Great topping. Coffee Cake favorite.

  • Cranberry angel-food muffins

    • bching on November 14, 2014

Made more muffins than the recipe said but they were good--so no problem. I might use less sugar next time. Some candied citrus peel in place of some of the cranberries would be good, too.

  • Herbed mini popovers

    • vegwithtastebuds on January 22, 2023

A bit bland as written. Used 1/2 TBS each tarragon, parsley & chives and upped salt to 3/4 tsp and that was better. If using a standard 6-well popover pan (not mini) it makes 6

  • Corn and Parmesan fritters

    • vegwithtastebuds on January 22, 2023

P153 A delicious corn fritter. The suggested toppings were delightful and not how we had previously had them. Would make again

  • Bananas Foster

    • vegwithtastebuds on January 29, 2023

Added 1/4 tsp salt and it improved the flavor. Vanilla extract was fine, no need for bean. Rum was a good choice for the alcohol

  • Fresh fruit salad

    • julesamomof2 on May 25, 2017

This is really your basic fruit salad but I really liked the addition of pineapple juice.
