Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Parsi deviled eggs

    • kari500 on October 23, 2019

My favorite deviled eggs. If scared of heat can mince celery in place of jalapeno for the little crunch.

  • Frozen margaritas

  • Cream of jalapeño soup

    • tamara_cjermb on April 05, 2026

Wonderful! Very rich so serve 1 cup servings for first course.

  • Peanut corn chowder

  • Fall fruit salad

    • Emily Hope on November 18, 2010

I threw in some toasted hazelnuts since I didn't have any nut oil on hand. Good, perhaps not as distinctive as Suzanne Goin's similar salad, but easier to throw together on a weeknight.

  • Marion Cunningham's buttermilk pancakes

  • Anne Rosenzweig's matzah brei

    • sgump on August 18, 2011

Simplicity in itself--but utter comfort food. I typically do not remove the onions from the pan before adding the egg-and-matzo mixture. I also usually scale things down a bit (using olive oil instead of butter and using, for example, 1 diced onion, 1 whole egg plus 2 additional whites, and just 2 large matzo sheets). Finished with salt and pepper, the dish goes perfectly with a green salad, fresh fruit, and glass of wine.

  • Breakfast cobbler with sausage, apples, onions and cheddar

    • Running_with_Wools on November 08, 2020

This unusual breakfast cobbler is a family favorite. It has big chunks of onions, sausage and apples with a sort of corn bread batter with lots of cheddar cheese.

  • Wheezers cheese pie

    • MollyB on August 02, 2022

This was remarkably good for how easy it is, something like a cross between a quiche and a frittata (but with a very healthy dose of cheese). It was perfect for a weeknight when I didn't have much on hand but cheese and eggs. I loved that nothing had to be cooked on the stovetop or rolled out before baking - just chop onion, grate cheese, beat eggs - and bake!

  • Southwestern black bean burgers

    • mooo42 on December 02, 2018

Needs minced onion and garlic. Add more breadcrumbs.

  • Chickpea burgers

    • mooo42 on December 02, 2018

Longtime favorite. Omit rosemary. Add cucumber and radish to salsa. Leave out basil.

  • Salmon in sweet red curry (Panang pla salmon)

    • mooo42 on December 02, 2018

Way too much curry paste as is. Cut down to 2 TB

  • Jerk chicken

    • mooo42 on December 02, 2018

Must serve with Rice and Peas also in this book. Marinade is great on tofu too.

  • Million-dollar chicken

    • aeader on April 06, 2021

Very quick and easy weeknight meal, and also very tasty. I used boneless skinless thighs, medium-spicy salsa, and slivered almonds, skipped the currants. Our chicken was done after only 10 minutes of simmering. Definitely a repeat.

  • The amazing five-hour roast duck

    • bching on October 26, 2015

This recipe results in gloriously crispy duck skin. I'd advise planning on 4 hours in the oven, though. The full 5 hours can dry out the meat.

  • Roasted cauliflower and red onions with rosemary

    • AgusiaH on October 12, 2014

      Tasty and fast.

    • Kringler on March 13, 2019

Nice recipe. It does not need 40 minutes in the oven. Twenty to 25 minutes seemed right.
