Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Linguine with garlic oil and pancetta

    • louie734 on March 26, 2013

A good and easy way to make a quasi-carbonara if bacon is used instead of pancetta.

  • Chocolate fudge cake

    • Jane on April 13, 2009

My daughter's favorite cake so gets made a lot. I've found I need to use 3 cake tins if using the low, sandwich tins as using 2 means they overflow in the oven.

    • lhudson on November 14, 2016

My cake was good and everybody enjoyed it, but my version did not have the deep chocolate color and was not as fluffy. Will try again.

  • The Union Square Café's bar nuts

    • Jane on December 25, 2012

I made a double batch of these for a party and they were universally popular. Very easy to do, just roasted nuts mixed with melted butter and herbs/spices but the warm spiciness is great. They are a bit greasy so you will need napkins.

    • EdM on January 30, 2019

See Smitten Kitchen's version of this, too.

  • Warm shredded lamb salad with mint and pomegranate

    • Jane on May 18, 2019

This was so good and so easy. I left it cooking overnight on a low oven. By lunchtime it was falling off the bone tender and all I had to do was shred it and scatter over some pomegranate arils. Ran out of mint as so many other dishes at the lunch had mint in.

  • Chocolate cloud cake

    • jzanger on September 15, 2014

So good and simple. I omitted the orange rind but included the Cointreau. Great last minute dinner party dessert.

    • tarae1204 on March 28, 2021

This is the cake that I think of when ever a chocolate cake is called for. It is so easy to make, and always successful. I made it for my now husband‘s birthday when we first started dating, and...well...we’re married now. This is a good cake. I most recently made it for my son’s 10 year old birthday dinner, and I used Grand Marnier and orange zest, and he sadly did not like it. So I would caution anyone who makes it: feel free to use an orange liqueur or orange zest if you just want a light orange flavor. Because if you use both it will be very strong. It’s totally OK to leave them out too.

  • Asian-spiced kedgeree

    • cthdawn on January 23, 2010

used sunny spain and thyme in place of lime leaves; salt at the end; 8 minute hard boiled eggs; cilantro frozen from the garden; everybody loved. steph had seconds

  • Italian sausages with lentils

    • Lindalib on July 18, 2012

This was just ok. We ended up adding some goat cheese to it for a little more flavour. It was somewhat better the next day, although it still tasted as though it was missing something.

  • Pasta with meatballs

    • sarahawker on September 28, 2015

Kids and husband LOVED this. It was simple, easy to put together. Didn't wow me but they sure loved it so it's definitly a make-again.

  • Thai yellow pumpkin and seafood curry

    • Charlotte_vandenberg on August 30, 2018

Perfect weeknight dinner. Followed the recipe, used frozen prawns and salmon.

    • kmorgens on August 07, 2018

One of my favorite recipes. I make it exactly as written.

  • Lemon risotto

    • lhudson on October 25, 2016

This was really good. I have not made much risotto before so was not sure what to expect but the recipe was easy to follow and the results were creamy and delicious.

  • Welsh-rarebit muffins

    • lhudson on November 08, 2016

My family really likes Worcestershire Sauce so these muffins were right up our alley. Enjoyed the flavors!!
