Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Almond milk and maple porridge

    • Astrid5555 on December 07, 2012

Perfect weekday breakfast for a winter day!

    • Melanie on November 25, 2016

Yum! I only soaked the oats for half an hour but would soak longer next time to make sure they cook well.

  • Pear and walnut Bircher muesli

    • Astrid5555 on December 07, 2012

Qick and healthy make ahead breakfast. I normally prepare a big bowl for the whole week, store it in the fridge, and just add yogurt and fresh fruit in the morning.

  • Green tabbouleh topped with a cherry tomato salad

    • Astrid5555 on December 07, 2012

Despite the big amount of herbs this salad tastes quite bland.

  • Tamarind tempeh with sesame noodles and shredded greens

    • Astrid5555 on December 07, 2012

Delicious tempeh marinade - will use for other recipes as well.

  • Orecchiette with broccoli and pine nuts

    • Astrid5555 on December 07, 2012

      Nice, but nothing special.

  • Oven-baked pea, barley and broad bean frittata

    • Astrid5555 on May 21, 2015

Initially I loved the idea of putting some grains into my frittata and since I also found a packet of halloumi while cleaning out the fridge this was the recipe of the day. However, the pearl barley just did not do it for me. The frittata was just very filling nothing more and I would have preferred feta cheese instead of the halloumi. Not to be repeated.

  • Charred baby cauliflower with cumin, chilli and almonds

    • Melanie on November 25, 2016

Quick and easy to make. Very tasty.

  • Puy lentil hummus and carrot and cumin hummus with garlic toasts

    • Melanie on November 25, 2016

The carrot hummus was tasty but didn't taste enough of carrot for my liking. The garlic toasts were a winner though.

  • Malaysian egg curry

    • Nancith on May 04, 2021

This dish was really different but quite enjoyable; even my hubby, who at times is not enthralled by curries, enjoyed this. I cut the quantities roughly in half to fit my quantities of ingredients, and had to sub Sriracha for sambal oelek. It is my bad habit to prep as I go along, but that resulted in burned shallots for the garnish. This recipe will definitely work better with everything ready to go before cooking, & the eggs can be soft-boiled several hours in advance.

  • Smoky black bean and roast tomato soup

    • RachLFinn on March 30, 2018

This soup was a real winner. An easy to make hearty soup with a gentle heat. I'll definitely be making it again. Vegans can give the sour cream a miss. Recipe ingredients list 'roasted tomatoes'. Roast the tomatoes while you're making the salsa - get them nice and browned, and be sure to rinse (deglaze?) the baking dish with some boiling water to get the tasty sticky bits into the stock. I subbed the coriander for parsley. Because coriander sucks.

  • Gazpacho

    • saarwouters on July 28, 2018

Great basic recipe for gazpacho. Alice says: "don't be shy with the seasoning", but the recipe only asks for 1 clove of garlic and no salt or pepper... I found it a bit bland. So I added 4 cloves of garlic, a big pinch of salt, lots of ground pepper and the juice of half a lemon.

  • Silverbeet and Brie mini muffins

    • saarwouters on September 18, 2017

These are delicious! Made them with spinach and camembert. Made a whole batch to add to lunch during the week and froze some.

  • Cherry tomato tarte Tatin

    • saarwouters on January 27, 2018

Simple to make. We used ready-made puff pastry. Beautiful side-dish with good flavours.
