Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Honey chilli chicken

    • dprostrollo on August 12, 2019

This was fine, it was very flavourful but took on a lot more of the granules and boullion than the honey

    • Mynka on June 23, 2021

I stir fried mine instead of oven cook. Was lovely.

  • Singapore nasi goreng

    • dprostrollo on August 12, 2019

This is really lovely, could eat the whole recipe in one sitting. Didn't add the fried egg (too tired) and didn't miss it. Reheated to a tasty lunch as well.

As with any fried rice dish, I would recommend that you use day old rice. Failing that, spread the cooked rice out on a baking dish in a single layer and put it in the oven on a low temperature to dry it out. The texture of the dish will be better. I found the portions of this to be quite small, so I bulked it out with more vegetables (mostly cabbage). If you have it, use kecap manis in place of the soy sauce, and chicken thigh instead of chicken breast. Of course, this makes it a bit more calorie dense, so I understand why the authors chose breast. Would definitely make this again.

  • Chicken in black bean sauce

    • hbakke on January 20, 2020

An easy dinner. Pretty tasty. I used 2 bell peppers instead of one and served it with rice.

  • Stuffed meatballs

    • dprostrollo on August 12, 2019

A little bit dense due to lack of bread crumbs, but tasty nonetheless

    • hbakke on January 23, 2020

As the previous reviewer said, the meatballs were a bit dense without any breadcrumbs but the addition of cheese was tasty. The sauce needed a little help. It was too thick and needed a longer cooking time because of my not so finely chopped carrots. I added a bit of red wine and some pasta water to loosen the sauce. I served this with some spaghetti noodles. Overall, this was a relatively easy, quick dinner recipe.

  • Chicken dippers

    • dprostrollo on May 01, 2019

These were nice, nothing mind blowing, but made for a tasty meal

  • Creamy garlic chicken

    • cook_fresco on April 08, 2024

I chopped the onions and caramelised them in olive oil and butter, used white wine to deglaze the pan and swapped out the low fat cream cheese for mascarpone. Too much stock flavour: I'd use just one chicken stock cube/pot another time as it was rather salty, and that was without cooking down the stock by half. As the recipe is written you'd have two stock cubes/pots worth of salt/flavour in only 200 ml liquid?. It was really tasty, however, and the paprika and chives make it. Served with boiled new potatoes, broccoli and cauliflower.

  • Cajun dirty rice

    • dprostrollo on May 01, 2019

Tasty, filling meal a little on the spicy side. I really liked it, Dan tolerated it!

  • Cock and bull

  • Sloppy Joes

    • dprostrollo on June 02, 2019

Not a huge fan of this one. The Worcestershire sauce is too powerful so it comes off a little sour.

    • hbakke on January 21, 2020

These were good with some modifications. We added a 14 oz can of tomato sauce instead of the 3 tablespoons. The peppers aren't really cooked after 10 minutes in the oven, but I didn't really mind. After a liberal amount of added salt and pepper, these tasted very similar to a traditional sloppy joe mix.

    • Sue21 on August 22, 2024

The peppers need to be cooked for double the time i.e. about 20 mins -on tasting during cooking, I added more tomato puree, more mustard powder, and didn't add all the worcestershire sauce. The filling could be used inside little gem lettuce leaves (similar to another recipe that I use) if preferred.

  • Bolognese bake

    • anna_66imxn on March 13, 2026

NOT A PASTA BAKE - A ONE POT PASTA DISH BUT IT DOES NOT GO IN THE OVEN TO BAKE Tastes ok but misleading title

  • Chicken Parmigiana

    • holly_hyg9s9 on May 28, 2026

It’s a really tasty dish that mainly uses store cupboard ingredients, so great when you don’t have much in. However it definitely takes longer to cook than it says, so allow more time than it says.

  • Salt and pepper chips
