Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Smoked spiced tri-tip with Calabrian chimichurri

    • Xyz123 on August 24, 2024

One of the best tri tips I’ve made! Use the extra chimichurri sauce to make the chicken wings.

  • Crispy grilled wings with Calabrian vinaigrette

    • Xyz123 on August 24, 2024

      Loved these!

    • Maefleur on October 29, 2024

Loved these as well! Sweet, spicy, salty, garlicky, and so flavorful!

  • Basic B grilled chicken salad with BBQ sauce vinaigrette

    • tarae1204 on May 31, 2025

This was great! Its deliciousness will reflect the freshness and flavor of the ingredients, and I’ll continue to make it with fresh seasonal veggies. I think it makes more than four servings, personally. Changes we made this time: Used black instead of white beans. Left out cheese. Used a mustard and vinegar based bbq sauce for the dressing so left the called-for vinegar out. That gave me a honey mustard type dressing which was good. Don’t omit the jicama. It adds to the texture tremendously.

This is a great salad- reminiscent of the kind you’d get at a chain restaurant like Applebees, but way more delicious. Kidney beans are also great in this!

  • Spicy soy chicken kebabs

    • Maefleur on May 26, 2024

I marinated the chicken for 1 1/2 hrs, and these were very flavorful, and just mildly spicy. Upped the sambal to 1 Tbsp, and would add a little more next time. Will be making these in the summer rotation.

  • Chicken satay with peanut sauce and smashed cucumber salad

    • Xyz123 on October 20, 2024

I don’t think I’ve ever made a Gaby dish I didn’t like, but all three of these, the chicken, peanut sauce and cucumbers, missed the mark for me. Each one felt like there was an overpowering ingredient, the cucumber dish, not so much. I won’t be repeating these.

  • Smoked spatchcock chicken

    • Maefleur on June 02, 2024

If you don't have a smoker, this still has a nice light smoky flavor from the ingredients. We enjoyed the flavor and spice of her seasoning blend.

    • Xyz123 on June 09, 2024

This was so good! I let it marinate overnight to enhance the flavor, cut the brown sugar in half and used a hot Hawaiian salt. Amazing!

  • Couscous salad with sun-dried tomato vinaigrette

    • julesamomof2 on June 06, 2024

I was excited to try this recipe as I love a dressed up couscous and this one was nice, although a bit of work to make the dressing. I served this warm as am not a fan of cold grains.

  • Grilled shrimp and charred chopped salad

    • VegasCook37 on May 23, 2025

5/22/25 really good. Make sure to add the stone fruit - just a little ripe peach. It adds some sweetness to balance out all the other flavors. Great marinade for the shrimp. I used mixed greens so didn’t grill Romaine but that would just add some more flavor. Looking forward to left over dressing on eggs and toast

  • Charred corn pasta salad

    • julesamomof2 on June 17, 2024

I had high hopes for this as the picture in the physical copy is absolutely mouth watering but sadly this was dry and boring and mostly untouched by guests. The problem with it is there's no dressing for the pasta 'salad' except for a squeeze of lime (recipe doesn't state how much) and a sprinkling of chile powder to finish. Will not be repeated.

  • BBQ sauce vinaigrette

    • tarae1204 on May 31, 2025

Good dressing but I think it’s assumed you will use a tomato based bbq sauce. I used a mustard and vinegar based Carolina sauce, so I omitted the apple cider vinegar in the recipe. I also found it didn’t need salt and vinegar.
