Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Grand Central Bakery jammers

    • radishseed on June 04, 2019

Filled with Rhubarb hibiscus compote from "Good to the Grain." A+

  • Cranberry orange pecan bread

    • nadiam1000 on November 24, 2020

Delicious and moist texture - not too sweet with enough orange flavor but not overwhelming. I baked in 9 x 5 loaf pans and the loaves baked up a bit short and flat on top. Next time I would bake in a slight smaller loaf pan to get better height and maybe a crack on top.

    • radishseed on November 26, 2023

My loaf pans are 8 x 4 inches, so a little smaller than the recipe calls for. I worried they might spill over, but they just rose very high, and most of the cranberries and pecans also rose to the top. Baking time was a little longer.

  • Popovers

    • okmosa on August 02, 2015

The recipe is perfect except they stuck. Maybe I didn't heat the pan enough or didn't use enough butter.

  • Granola

    • PQPantry on March 07, 2022

      Nice granola not overly sweet

  • Triple-chocolate cookies

    • mabeysmom on April 17, 2010

Made 4/17. Used 1 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp creamy hazelnut extract

  • Orange nutmeg cookies

    • radishseed on June 03, 2019

Made lemon-thyme cookies by adding lemon thyme and lemon zest and omitting orange zest and nutmeg. Ate with strawberry-rhubarb sorbet.

  • Hazelnut poppy seed cookies

    • nadiam1000 on July 17, 2022

I love shortbread and this is an interesting and delicious variation. I happened to have some poppy seeds and hazelnuts to use up so this was a perfect fit. Flavor and texture are excellent. easy to make ahead and bake off a few at a time.

  • Peanut butter sandwich cookies

    • PatriciaScarpin on March 17, 2012

This recipe is delicious - both the cookies and filling are wonderful. But there was some filling left, I believe that 3/4 of the filling recipe would be enough to fill the cookies.

  • Rosemary bread pudding

    • kbrooks on May 13, 2025

Very savory side. Perfect for roast chicken or meat roasts.

  • Summer strata

    • kbrooks on May 22, 2024

I've also made this with peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes and smoked gouda.

  • Winter strata

    • kbrooks on August 17, 2025

Delicious hearty strata. I used Swiss chard, aged gruyere and my homemade sourdough bread.

  • Roasted corn with chiles tart

    • kbrooks on May 03, 2026

Very tasty flavors. Husband loves it. Can use poblanos if you don't have Anaheims. Best when made with fresh farmers market corn in season.

  • Clafouti

    • okmosa on July 10, 2016

2016-07-09 I think I've made better clafoutis recipes. Not sure about the blender instead if whisking, not letting batter sit 10 mins, or the sugar on top.

  • Cream cheese apple cake

    • kbrooks on May 03, 2026

      Nice moist apple cake.

Pacific Northwestern flock to the Grand Central Bakery for their favorite baked goods: gooey jam-filled buttermilk biscuits and hand-formed rustic breads baked in a hearth-style oven, insanely flaky croissants, and flavor-packed whole wheat cinnamon rolls. Now these much loved recipes are available to home bakers for the first time, accompanied by easy-to-follow pointers on baking for breakfast and brunch, cookies, fruit desserts, cakes, pies, and more. Piper Davis, the daughter of Grand Central's founder who grew up in Grand Central Bakeries, generously lets home bakers in on all the family secrets that have made Grand Central the first morning stop for locals for more than three decades.
