    Peach cobbler (pg 106) -- this recipe calls for shortening, something I no longer have in my kitchen. I went with lard rather than all butter. The recipe also differed from my usual cobbler by including vanilla in the topping. The nutmeg and cinnamon seasoning was well balanced -- all in all a very satisfactory cobbler. But it didn't convince me I needed a recipe to throw together a cobbler.

    Peaches in sparkling white wine (pg 21) - a simple and excellent way to serve peaches but if truth be told, I prefer the peach without the wine.
