Notes about this book

  • BohemianCoast on September 04, 2018

Just an insanely good book, which we bought by chance when we lived in a tiny house with an Aga that we turned off every summer. Everything needs adjusting for modern microwaves, but we still cook a microwave risotto every couple of weeks.

    LOVE the basic risotto recipi.

This is a great cookbook, though no one seems to believe that a microwave cookbook can that good. I also have a different edition.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Stuffed chayote

    • mjes on August 26, 2021

This recipe adds flavor to the mild chayote and makes it visually a more interesting side dish. I enjoyed it but was not convinced this is the best use of chayote.

  • Creamy barley

    • Lee on January 14, 2023

This is my go-to way to prepare plain pearl barley.

  • Pompano with leeks

    • bching on May 03, 2022

      page 182

    • bching on May 04, 2022

Good easy dish with pompano, the most delicious fish ever IMO. I used ramps instead of leeks, but leeks would be lovely in the winter.

  • Barbecued spare ribs

    • KatieK1 on May 14, 2022

Brilliant, clever and delicious recipe. Only used half the ribs; I have no idea how the full amount would ever have fit in my microwave (which is pretty large).

    • KatieK1 on May 14, 2022

Since I only used half the amount of ribs called for in the recipe, I only microwaved each side for 7 minutes.

  • Mashed potatoes

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

Can also make with all purpose potatoes.

  • Cauliflower purée

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

      Can also make without potatoes.

  • Parsnip purée

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

Can also make without potatoes and heavy cream, with chicken broth instead.

  • Chinese stewed tomatoes

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

Can also use as a sauce for fish, chicken or eggs or as a pasta sauce.

  • Vegetables for one

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

Can be a side dish or main dish (with cheese sauce, etc.). Also called Salad Bar Vegetables.

  • Beurre blanc

    • KatieK1 on September 06, 2023

      recipe includes white wine

  • Salsa Bolognese

    • bching on July 07, 2019

So good. I've been making this for years. It's the perfect Friday night dinner for relaxing at home. It gets a lot of dishes dirty for a microwave recipe so I usually make two batches in a row and freeze a lot.

  • Ginger lace cookies

    • KatieK1 on December 26, 2025

These were a disaster. No notes on how to tell when they are done. If you follow her timings, they will burn. Even when done, which actually took 45 seconds and not 2.5 minutes, they turn out greasy.

  • Cranberry sauce

    • Foodfann on August 25, 2011

See "chunky" variation with pecans and orange segments.
