      These are very tasty as an appetizer or light snack BUT make sure you read the recipe thoroughly before starting preparation - total cooking/ resting/ chilling time is over six hours - you won't be having these for lunch unless you start the evening before.

      Very hearty fare. As per the recipe, requires 4 hours cooking time, but you can shave this to 1 hour by using a good store-bought chicken stock.

  • Spiced buttermilk waffles with rhubarb molasses and orange whipped butter

      The waffles are gently spiced, the butter is perfect, the rhubarb molasses is cloying & overrides the rest of the dish.

      Ok, but a lot of “cook in pan, take out of pan, cook in pan, return to pan” that takes this beyond a midweek dish. Trying to small chicken pieces out of a creamy sauce was a test of patience & led to the occasional overcooked piece of meat from escapees that were not detected. The flavours were good, but I’m sure there’s similarly tasty dishes that are more streamlined than this recipe.

      Another random recipe to use up partially thawed veal osso bucco (not exactly the meal of choice in 37oC weather - thanks broken freezer!). This was fine, but nothing too exciting. Much prefer Matthew Evans' or Tessa Kiros' versions.

  • Meatballs with vodka dill cream sauce

      This was a pleasant enough dish to serve on a cold wintry Sunday. I didn't have any lingonberry preserves, as suggested, to go with it, and I thought it was a tad bland. The vodka added at the last minute made the sauce a bit too strong, but the sauce was nice and thick and overall a filling, hearty meal.

      The chicken was excellent, but the walnut sauce was really unpleasant, with a claggy texture & bland flavour.

  • Quark fritters with honey syrup

      Despite draining the cottage cheese for 24hrs & refrigerating the batter overnight, these simply didn't form. The flavours was cloyingly sweet & the texture was unpleasant. Not recommended.

  • Gingerbread spice glazed ham with cherry relish

      I'll have to report back on the relish at another time, but this glazed ham was phenomenal!

      I too have only cooked the ham but it is a winner. Can substitute a gingerbread syrup if necessary
