    I didn't get a lot of the aromatic flavor in the steamed rice but it didn't exactly taste like plain rice. I substituted medium grain for short grain rice.

• Down-home collard greens

    Exactly as billed, perfect version of Southern greens. Collards (last from the garden, picked after a hard frost) starred but the vinegar and pepper flakes were great supporting actors. .

• Grilled lamb skewers with red wine and honey glaze

    These were perfectly fine, but nothing special. There are better lamb recipes so I wouldn’t make again.

• Hard watermelon lemonade

    This is lemon flavored foremost with a hint of watermelon. The tequila really works well and compliments the lemonade. It's not overly sugary. It's well balanced between sweet, sour, and alcohol.

    We loved this cocktail. Really well balanced. A perfect summer drink.

• Mac and cheese salad with buttermilk dressing

    A really nice pasta salad with a good amount of flavor. I really liked the addition of lettuce to give it some crunch. I didn't use mâche as I had a lot of green leaf lettuce growing the garden that I wanted to use.

    This is a fun cocktail to go with Mediterranean food. We double the ouzo in the recipe as otherwise it is barely there. Don’t skip the espresso bean/coffee bean garnish it does add a depth of flavor that goes well with the cocktail.
