Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Baked French toast

    • lhudson on November 15, 2016

So easy ......and the Grand-kids loved it. This dish might have to make the Christmas morning menu.

  • Hoppin' John

    • mdagl on January 02, 2023

Made this for New Years Day in 2022 for friends. Everyone loved it. Would make again. Since the recipe uses dried beans, it does make for a long simmering meal, but it's a great choice when you have the time.

  • Grilled corn dip

    • taste24 on June 12, 2020

Delicious, easy dip. Makes plenty. The flavor improves with time in the fridge

  • Dr Pepper cupcakes

    • Shewi128 on March 16, 2021

These were flat cupcakes with minimal rise. The flavor was ok. Wouldn't make again,

  • Chocolate-covered strawberries

    • lauren_8zaumk on March 05, 2026

Didn't really need a recipe to do that but consider this recipe an inspiration to make something that feels special

  • Easter cookies with buttercream and sprinkles

    • Shewi128 on December 28, 2022

I only made the frosting for decorating sugar cookies, and it turned out well. I did add some vanilla to make it more interesting.

  • Glazed Easter ham

    • Dollhouse_Cuisine on April 21, 2025

Made for Easter dinner, April 20, 2025. Followed instructions for warming up the spiral-cut (fully cooked) ham. Turns out, it contained a spice packet and something else for seasoning the ham, and we used that instead of the cookbook's glaze (we were short on time). We did stud the ham with cloves, as in the recipe. It was good, but we'll do this cookbook's glaze next time -- it may be much better.

  • Orange-vanilla fruit salad

    • Shewi128 on July 10, 2023

I like that this salad was user-friendly and easy to customize. One note is to make sure you let the syrup reduce down to the thickness you want. I didn't do that with the fear it would be too thick. Mine ended up too watery. The flavor was good, though.

    • mdagl on May 03, 2025

This was excellent. Will make again and will riff on the fruit combinations too.

    • lisa_02v8eq on April 08, 2026

Way better to make syrup the night before

  • Baked beans

    • Saltairelife on August 25, 2025

Albeit not the most healthy version of baked beans, it is the best I've made. Bonus: It's easy. I was hesitant to bake them as long as she recommended - I'm glad she advised not to cut the time. My instinct was that it would turn to baked beans mush-instead, the whole pan morphs into caramelized magic!

  • My favorite pasta salad

    • lhudson on December 03, 2016

Easy to make and everybody enjoyed this pasta salad. The adobo sauce was an nice addition to the dressing.

  • Strawberry ice cream

  • Broccoli cheese soup

    • taste24 on June 23, 2020

This has a good backbone, but I really needed to doctor it up. More salt, garlic, etc. This is a great recipe to play with!

    • cougargal on November 09, 2020

Did not add the chicken broth so it would be thicker. Added 2 grated carrots and a little Velveeta for a creamy texture. With additions, tastes as good as Panera.

  • Giblet gravy

    • Dollhouse_Cuisine on December 24, 2024

John made this (I had the flu this year). Everyone liked. He omitted the liver.

  • No-knead cloverleaf rolls

    • rachel_a40gn2 on March 11, 2026

I have no clue what I did wrong, and I'm a pretty experienced baker. The dough was SO STICKY. It was incredibly difficult to work with. Not a lot of rise, fairly dense. The flavor was fine, but the the texture, especially on the outside, was kind of gummy.

  • Turkey Tetrazzini

    • mdagl on December 20, 2022

We've made this twice with Thanksgiving leftover turkey and we really enjoy it! Will continue to make it in the future.

  • Caramel apple sweet rolls

    • Shannoncooks17 on October 16, 2022

These are great! Made a half batch. Would add more apple next time whether half or not. So good!

  • Christmas rum pudding cake

    • Hillhan on January 08, 2026

My husband requests this every year for his birthday. It is a big hit!

  • Boozy bread pudding

    • jlhunthill on December 04, 2022

      Page 340

    • jlhunthill on December 04, 2022

I used dried cranberries instead of raisins and it came out delicious.

  • Drop biscuits

    • cougargal on November 09, 2020

Delicious and easy especially using the food processor!

  • Sweet and savory bacon crackers

    • lhudson on November 06, 2016

These turned out really nice, not sure which one I like best. Would definitely make again.

  • Lemon crème pie shooters
