Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Russian salad plate

    • wkhull on November 23, 2022

We found this tastier heated the next morning with a poached egg and a little gruyere on top.

  • Pesto spinach stuffed spaghetti squash

    • wkhull on November 04, 2023

Good but I think would have been better if I removed all the squash innards, tossed it with the spinach pesto mix, then casseroled it.

  • Roasted beets with orange and savory granola

    • wkhull on November 20, 2022

This was really good, in large part because the texture differences. I enjoyed this as a vegetarian main dish. The granola comes out kind of soft from the oven, but as the recipe indicates, it does become crunchy while it cools. Make sure to use really good oranges, as they are the star in this dish. I did use watercress, but I think baby spinach would work well too. The savory granola is sweet and goes great with yogurt, so I'd highly recommend making a double batch for morning yogurt snacks.

  • Crab quesadillas

    • wkhull on November 23, 2022

Easy and tasty. Would taste good substituting fish or shrimp. Lots of water rendered from the fresh spinach. I would recommend sauteing the spinach before putting in the quesadilla.

  • Maryland crab soup

    • stockholm28 on March 21, 2024

This was good and I think it would be good without the crab as a vegetable soup. I don’t think this was a great use of expensive lump crabmeat so I am unlikely to make this again.

  • Lemon chicken with artichokes, capers, and arugula

    • Wende on February 05, 2024

This is a really delicious recipe. It's basically a chicken piccata with artichokes and a yummy sauce, served on a bed of arugula. My husband LOVES this. I could not find frozen artichoke hearts in my market, but I had canned artichoke bottoms from Trader Joe's on hand, and they worked. I'd love to try it with frozen to see if there's a difference, but it's good to know that canned works out too. I would serve this to casual company for sure

  • Orzo puttanesca with chicken

    • Wende on August 02, 2023

I've made this a few times - it's quick, tasty and quite filling. I also add finely chopped anchovies and dissolve them in the olive oil before adding the onions, a la Melissa Clark, because I am partial to puttanesca sauces that contain that element, and that holds true for this dish. For me, this is a keeper

  • One-pot spaghetti and turkey meatballs

    • tiffany_huazfl on April 29, 2026

Meatballs are yummy Sauce is cheap: I had to doctor with seasonings Cooking noodles in same pot felt sinful; but admittedly it does the job!

  • Pomegranate marinated chicken thighs with roasted carrots over romaine

    • Buttercups on March 28, 2026

Tasty and different! Marinated thighs for about 8 hours. I feel like thin chicken breasts or tenders would give a brighter flavor, and a few more carrots would do nicely- these were delicious roasted.

  • Chicken shawarma with yogurt sauce

    • Buttercups on March 20, 2026

Marinated thighs for 8 hours. Sliced and cooked in skillet before finishing under broiler. We really liked the warm-spice flavor of this! Paired perfectly with the yogurt sauce. Served on wheat pita bread with tomato, cucumbers, and red onion. Makes a great warm weather dinner. *Need to double this so we can have leftovers for lunch

    • khughes on April 09, 2026

      Excellent sauce

  • Fennel-rubbed pork chops with apple, kale, and sweet potato

    • wkhull on October 11, 2022

The pork was simple and tasty (though I put too much fennel on), however the veggie mix was incredible. I used Rein de Reinette apples, which are equally tangy, sweet, and juicy/crisp and held up really well. I did chop the kale up finer and put it in with the onions (earlier than the dish recommends). Will definitely make again.

  • Ginger-soy marinated pork loin with bok choy

    • wkhull on July 09, 2023

Err on the side of the 8 hour marinade. At less than one hour it was not super flavorful.

  • Beef stew with farro and mushrooms

    • julesamomof2 on December 11, 2024

Loved. Made as written and it was perfect.

    • wkhull on May 28, 2025

Good for weeknight fare, though I think you could easily up the carrots and mushrooms to make it more vege-licious. Partner was not enthused because he prefers potatoes in his beef stew.

  • Lamb meatballs with lentils in an aromatic tomato sauce

    • kgmom on June 03, 2024

We really enjoyed this! Great flavor. We used Pardon lentils.

  • Herbed pork tenderloin with delicata squash and Brussels sprouts

    • Wende on April 05, 2023

I love this dish. It's so easy to make and it's delicious. The herbed tenderloin cooks perfectly and the vegetable duo play off one another exceptionally well. I've made this several times and it had never disappointed. The delicata squash is seasonal, so I make this once a week while I can get it. I've subbed butternut, which is good, but I prefer delicata squash since it does not have to be peeled - just cut and seeded.
