    This is my favorite go-to cookbook when I want to make something in the crockpot for an extended family Sunday dinner since there's so many recipes in one place. This is a compilation of the best recipes from the other five books in her "Fix-it and Forget-it" cookbook series, so you may not want to buy this if you already own the other titles. It's hard to pick favorites, but the "Blueberry-Apple Waffle Topping" is great on french toast and ice cream too! My chicken was fine in the "Low-fat Chicken Cacciatore" recipe. I also liked the "Chuck Wagon Beef" and "Our Favorite Chili" recipes.

      This was good and easy! It turned out a little oily for my taste, but I'm used to cooking with much less (or no) meat I'm my chili. I added a lot more worcestershire, maybe 2 tbsp or so.

  • Creamy pork stew

      It was fine. My wife liked it more than I did. It wouldn’t all fit in my crockpot, so I had to cook it in two batches.

  • Cheese and corn chowder

      I added in a large potato (diced), and topped finished soup with chopped bacon, chives and crème fraiche.. so easy, so tasty.

  • Slow-cooked short ribs

      I eliminated combining the onions and remaining ingredients in a pot and bringing to a boil before adding to the browned ribs in the slow cooker. It seems pointless since everything is cooked for 10 hours. Instead, after browning the ribs, I put them in the cooker, scattered the garlic and onions over and combined the rest and poured over everything. After 10 hours the meat was fork tender and falling off the bones. The flavor of the "gravy" was complex,rich and absolutely delicious. I recommend making ahead, chilling to solidify the fat, skimming off the fat that rises to the top and re-warming.

      I did not have an orange so I substituted lemon zest and about 2 tablespoons of orange juice. It was very good. Family said that it is one they would like to have again sometime. It was a little juicier/thinner than I expected, but that is the only reason I didn't give it the full five stars.

  • Sweet-sour cabbage

      This was ok. I don't understand the quartered apples - they should have been chopped. The flavors were there and this was easy to throw into the slow cooker while I was rushing. I do think I prefer sweet and sour cabbage made on the stove top, because this recipe was missing the caramelized flavor of the cabbage that I enjoy.

  • Creamy spaghetti with beef and veggies

      Gave up partially through cooking bc it just wasn't working. Too much canned and processed food. I tried giving the dogs the canned mushrooms and they wouldn't even eat it.
