Whole Wheat Cinnamon Raisin waffles: good, easy to make. Nice with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on instead of syrup.

Classic and easy! My whole family loves this one so I often double and freeze.

  • Creamy cottage cheese waffles

    • NicoleBrown on July 23, 2024

Recipe said these waffles have a thin crust. I couldn’t keep mine edges from burning no matter what I tried! Taste was fine, but I’m glad I didn't double this recipe to freeze. Crispy edges = kid rejection ??

  • Blueberry-yogurt waffles

    • dianev on August 08, 2015

Very soft waffles. I used lemon yogurt for added flavor. Released from iron very easily.

  • Smoked salmon and dill waffles

    • SheilaS on September 18, 2025

These were very good. I wasn’t sure if I’d like smoked salmon IN the waffle batter vs as a topping but it worked quite well with the sour cream, salmon roe and scallions. A good option if you’ve got smoked salmon that’s not perfect for slicing.

  • Mustard waffles with chunky egg salad

    • ccav on February 18, 2013

surprisingly good.Waffles are thinner than usual.

Very tasty, savory waffles. They softened fairly rapidly after coming out of the waffle iron but crisped up nicely in a warm oven. Leftovers froze and reheated nicely. These are great with the arugula, tomato and egg salad as in the book but also good as a snack with a smear of chèvre. Would be a great bread alternative with soup or salad.

  • Rocky road waffles with hot fudge sauce

    • NicoleBrown on October 17, 2024

Made these for the kids with our mini Halloween waffle makers. I skipped the marshmallows (didn’t have any) and walnuts (kids would reject said waffles) and stuck with the mini chocolate chips. Waffles cooked up well!

  • Honey-yogurt waffles

    • tmitra on February 24, 2022

This is the first recipe I've cooked from this book and easily the worst waffles I've ever made. They were fine in flavor but weirdly floppy. I keep checking if I missed an ingredient, but I don't think I did. I expected better from (vintage) Dorie Greenspan and am doubting the rest of the book.

    • NicoleBrown on July 22, 2024

I like that the yogurt addition ups the protein content a bit! These waffles are a little softer and darker than the quick & easy recipe. Kids still enjoyed it so I doubled and froze the extras.

  • Apple waffles with rosy applesauce

    • NicoleBrown on September 12, 2024

Quite tasty! I was getting a little nervous about this book as some of the recipes have not been stellar for us. But this one is a winner! Nice mix of spices and fresh grated apple. It is a softer waffle as mentioned in the recipe. I had to be a little more gentle when removing it from the iron.

  • New England clam-hash waffles

    • L.Nightshade on April 24, 2019

We had clams left over from making the clam and sausage pasta from SFAH (on which I’ve yet to report), so I thought I’d give this a try. The recipe calls for canned clams, but I used cooked, fresh clams. Along with diced potatoes, the hash calls for bacon, onions, parsley, and thyme. This is added to a batter of eggs, clam juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Mr. Nightshade had his with fried eggs on top, I had mine plain. Although they look dry in the photo, that’s just the crispy exterior, they were moist and hash-like inside. I mostly tasted potato and bacon, with only a hint of clam. Next time, more clam. Or next time, a corned beef hash waffle. I served Ottolenghi’s sweetcorn slaw on the side.
