Notes about Recipes in this book

  • My mother's garden vegetable soup

    • Rinshin on December 15, 2014

Good soup, but not outstanding and being healthy version I did not expect all that much. But, I was very surprised by the tomato reduction which tasted wonderful with only few ingredients. I can use this for pizza topping too. I used crab stock instead of chicken stock.

  • Frisée and apple salad with smoked whitefish crostini

    • bwhip on November 27, 2023

Excellent, we really enjoyed this recipe. We used smoked trout, with a combination of butter lettuce and radicchio. This made for a nice, light dinner with the perfect combination between the bright and flavorful salad, and the delicious crostini. Fast, easy, and tasty.

  • Chinois grilled London broil salad with cilantro-mint-yogurt dressing

    • chawkins on May 26, 2016

I did not make the salad nor the dressing, just the steak. It was delicious. I halved the marinade for a pound and a half London broil, marinated for an hour and a half. Cooked it sous vide with the marinade in the bag @131.5 degree F for 5 hrs, then seared on the grill.

    • chawkins on July 07, 2021

Made this again, this time including the salad. I was a bit short on time, so the beef was sous vide for 4.5 hrs @ 131. The salad was pretty nice, the bitterness of the radicchio was offset by the dates in the salad and the honey in the dressing. Instead of radishes, I added slices of baby hakurei turnips from the garden.

  • Seared ahi tuna with grilled pineapple-mango salsa

    • bwhip on March 23, 2023

This was good, but I doubt I’ll repeat. I found that the salsa was flavorful, but really needed something to counterbalance all of that acidity, as it was really biting with so much vinegar, lime juice, pineapple, etc.

  • Sautéed chicken breasts with tomatoes and sherry vinegar sauce

    • bwhip on February 08, 2023

Delicious, lovely recipe. I made a couple of tweaks - I used regular farfalle pasta, and San Marzano tomatoes I crushed by hand. The flavor was wonderful, and developed so quickly. This should be a regular in our weeknight rotation.

  • Barbecued chicken with sweet-and-spicy barbecue sauce and mashed grilled vegetables

    • bwhip on July 04, 2023

Delicious! We enjoyed this very much. The barbecue sauce was nicely tangy and flavorful, and the vegetables were the perfect accompaniment to the chicken. I cut up a whole chicken and left the skin on. Nice summer dish!

  • Turkey-mushroom burgers with Wolfgang's "secret sauce"

    • bwhip on September 29, 2023

We enjoyed these very much. Excellent flavor, and super tender. A bit of work for burgers compared to most, but we were quite pleased with the results.

  • Stir-fried orange-pineapple beef with fried rice

    • bwhip on May 03, 2023

This was a really delicious dish. You need to make the rice the night before, and there is a fair amount of prep involved between the fried rice and the beef components, but the results are really tasty, healthy, and lovely.

  • Stir-fried orange-flavored ground pork in radicchio cups

    • bwhip on February 25, 2023

These were delightful. We used iceberg lettuce rather than radicchio, which the recipe mentioned as an option. Either one would be great, as the orange-pork-vegetable-rice mixture is wonderful. Pretty easy prep, big flavor payoff.

  • Farro and root vegetable pilaf

    • bwhip on June 15, 2023

This made for a very nice side dish, something a little different than the usual, and reasonably light and healthy too. Don't forget the salt and pepper!

  • Spelt coconut scones

    • Frogcake on February 09, 2020

Not too sweet, moist and delicious. And only 200 cals per scone! I was concerned about the coconut oil mixing uniformly. There were pea-sized balls remaining in the dough. However, this was not a problem in the baked product.
