      Warming and tasty. Followed recipe but used pressure cooker (1 minute at high pressure, natural release) after adding lentils, speeding it up considerably.

      Made with duck legs rather than a whole duck, and used frozen peas in place of tinned. Was easy and delicious!

  • An English lettuce salad

      Perfect salad. The dressing is so delicious. I didn't have fresh tarragon, so used 1 teaspoon dried. Also didn't mix the hard cooked egg yolks into the dressing; just chopped them along with the whites and added to the salad. Used French breakfast radishes, which are milder than regular red radishes.

      We had this as a side dish with beef stroganoff; it was delicious and went really well with it. Very easy to do as well. Note, in the UK edition it's called Braised Little Gem lettuces with butter and spring onions (p 123 in my copy). I've had this book a while and this is the first recipe I've cooked from it -- thanks EYB!

  • Raspberry clafoutis

      This was OK, but I don't think raspberries really work in a clafoutis. It took much longer than advertised to cook, but that might be because my frozen raspberries weren't as thawed as they might have been. Basically, tart fruit that exudes less juice is better in clafoutis.

  • Rhubarb and almond crumble with custard

      I'm yet to be convinced that ground almonds are suitable in a crumble topping. I also added 75gr whole blanched almonds, very roughly chopped, in the hope they would add more texture. Certainly there is a lovely almondy flavour to the topping. The ground ginger didn't come through at all and next time I'd replace with finely chopped stem ginger (added to the fruit with some of its syrup). Will make again.
