This book has really earned its keep. Cooked 4 recipes already and can't fault it so far.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Roasted strawberries with yogurt and sumac

    • Nrnarayan on August 19, 2025

Liked it, but need adjustments. Had to reduce the cooking time, maybe my strawberries were smaller? Liked the flavor though

  • Giant buttermilk-cornmeal pancake with blueberries

    • kshell on November 15, 2024

A good sheet pan pancake. Fluffy and no complaints. Skipped the lemon zest and adjusted toppings to suite my family.

  • Focaccia with olive oil and soy sauce dip

    • kshell on November 15, 2024

I have read here and there about Saltie's focaccia (and that's really this recipe's provenance). I think this was built up too much in my mind as "the best" and it just didn't do it for me. My family liked it. I found it too greasy. I will try one more time but I am NOT using the weight measure for the olive oil. As I poured it in the proofing container I felt like if I were eyeballing the volume measure I would have used almost half as much. This amount makes sense if you are stingy when you later oil the pan, but I'm pretty generous on that step and together it was too much. If my feelings change after adjusting the oil, I'll update.

  • Chaat masala “nachos”

    • NicoleBrown on October 08, 2024

I ate this for dinner once and liked it so much I ate it for dinner the next night also! I didn’t have chaat Marsala spice on hand so we skipped it. Upped the toppings amount and also added some pickled red cabbage and onions I had in the fridge.

  • Ginger-lemongrass meatballs

    • skvalentine on August 27, 2025

      These were pretty good! Flavorful.

  • Potato and ricotta galette

    • skvalentine on March 25, 2026

Used yukon gold potatoes and a pie crust I already had in the freezer. Great way to use up some leftover ricotta! Everyone but the 8-year-old liked it.

    • jennifer_7ds8wp on April 05, 2026

I used Yukon gold. I feel like it needs something a little extra, maybe some herbs? Caramelized onions? Still really yummy!

  • Scallion and cheddar tart with honey

  • Chicken with clementines, dates, and capers

    • Lepa on March 13, 2024

This was really delicious! I had to use two sheet pans so the veggies had room to roast and not steam. Will definitely make this again.

  • Chicken legs with carrots, potatoes, and apricots

    • MollyB on April 25, 2024

A nice comfort-food dish, and quite tasty when you get a bite with everything in it, but not especially exciting. I'd make it again if I had everything on hand and needed something fairly easy for dinner. I think I might like it a little more with prunes than I did with apricots - my dried apricots were fairly bland.

  • Homemade Shake ‘n Bake

    • Lepa on January 19, 2025

This is really easy and tastes good. I served it, as suggested, with roasted sweet potatoes and the arugula salad, which was a nice combination. My chicken was done a few minutes before the sweet potatoes.

  • Gochujang steak fajitas with kimchi, onions, and peppers

    • Lepa on April 24, 2024

This was an easy, tasty and satisfying meal. Our whole family enjoyed it. Next time I would only cook two peppers (because the kids don't each much) and slice the steak very thinly.

  • Japanese oven burgers with cabbage salad (Hambāgu)

    • jenselvin on March 18, 2024

This was incredibly delicious, especially the sauce!

    • Luckyme on July 07, 2025

We love this simple dinner. My grocery store sells a ground beef/pork blend so I used that to simplify things. The burgers were perfect and the sauce was great. Loved the idea of adding it to the sheet pan to warm and pick up the burger but to make it gravy-like. The cabbage slaw was a bright side dish. Personally, I just soaked the cabbage in my spinner and then drained it and spun it dry rather than soaking in a bowl and transferring it.

    • skvalentine on August 27, 2025

Delicious, easy supper. Didn't care for the slaw (found it to be too oily)-- next time I will make the one I normally make. Sauce was incredibly flavorful!

    • Lepa on September 05, 2025

My family loved this simple and delicious dinner. I made twice the amount of sauce, which was a good idea for my sauce-loving family. Next time I will also make more salad- maybe 1.5 times?

  • Oven Milanesas with tomato salad

    • Leo on August 05, 2024

Enjoyable way of cooking steak. Our steak was possibly a bit too thick but the results were tender and tasted great. The salad was a perfect accompaniment. Had some new potatoes roasted alongside. Simple for sure but definitely one to repeat.

  • Merguez meatball pitas with herby yogurt

    • Lepa on July 04, 2024

We liked these meatballs. They were nicely spiced and baking them was so much easier than frying!

    • Nrnarayan on August 23, 2025

Perfect weeknight meal! I skipped the freezing step and they cooked fine in the oven - maybe a little misshapen but they're going into a pita anyway. Added pickled onion and toum for extra oomph!

  • Hot maple-coconut shrimp with mango and broccoli

    • lholtzman on June 27, 2024

I found this pretty spicy already so I omitted the cayenne pepper. I liked the spice level, but it was a bit much for my littles.

  • Arrabbiata and white bean cheesy ravioli

    • rosyannposy on March 27, 2024

This was really quick to come together and was delicious. Really l liked the capers and raisins together. Will definitely add to the dinner rotation.

    • Leo on August 05, 2024

We enjoyed the flavours. Really quick to put together. It's not really cooking but very tasty. Ideal for a weeknight.

  • Gnocchi with broccoli and lemony ricotta

    • skvalentine on January 16, 2025

This turned out to be way too rich for my taste. Loved the simplicity, but no one finished their serving. Would not make again.

    • gootenbeez on June 04, 2025

Easy and quick to throw together. I love roasted broccoli and ricotta cheese so this was a total win.

  • Slab “bee sting” pizza

    • skvalentine on February 12, 2025

Had a little trouble with the dough-- not sure if it was user error or not-- I had to add quite a bit more flour to make the dough workable. But it ended up tasting great and everyone loved this pizza.

  • Sweet potatoes, onions, dates, and pistachios on yogurt

    • NicoleBrown on October 28, 2024

So easy & so delicious! I don’t think I’ve ever had sweet potatoes with dates before, but it’s delightful! Do not skip the lemon zest. Served as a main with some flatbread I baked up beforehand!

  • Orange-fennel shortbread

    • Lepa on December 19, 2025

My son baked these and they are delicious! The flavor combination of orange, cardamon, fennel and orange blossom is so beguiling. They needed a few extra minutes in the oven (maybe three)?

  • “Make someone happy” cake

    • rosyannposy on March 27, 2024

I just made the frosting from this recipe. I really like it, nice tang from the creme fraiche and it was so quick and easy!

  • Peanut butter-chocolate crispy rice treats

    • skvalentine on January 16, 2025

Excellent! Put this together on my lunch break and surprised the kids with dessert after dinner. Great flavor and texture-- will make again!

  • Simplest arugula salad

    • Lepa on January 19, 2025

This is simple and like many similar arugula salads but the addition of lemon zest makes it a bit different and better.
