Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Sesame cucumber crunch

    • julesamomof2 on May 27, 2024

A really nice 'non salad' salad/slaw recipe that makes a great pairing to anything asian inspired. Served it with simply grilled teriyaki chicken and it was the star of the dinner.

    • bwhip on September 16, 2024

Excellent slaw recipe, light and flavorful. A nice combination of flavors and textures, with just a hint of kick from the Sriracha.

  • House favorite chicken

    • katiesue28 on January 17, 2025

I used this to marinade skinless chicken thighs for about eight hours. I then roasted the chicken. It was fine as I used it chopped in a salad, but wouldn’t have wowed me on my own. I think grilling it would help caramelize more of the sugars.

  • Harvest breakfast cake

    • Lepa on January 23, 2025

This was really delicious. It wasn't too sweet and I also loved how it was packed with fruit and vegetables! If you are into simple cakes suitable for breakfast I highly recommend this one.

  • Cleo's morning glory oats

    • ginger2212 on September 08, 2024

These were very delicious and filling and satisfying! I got a little "pushback" on the carrots but it's not morning glory without carrot! Plus added nutritional value. Will definitely make again!

  • Beet dip

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

This dip is fresh and delicious! I used beets from my CSA box and it came together quickly once the beets were cooked. The color is stunning!

  • Whipped feta with crushed olives

    • Emily Hope on September 08, 2024

This was pretty good! I needed to add some lemon juice to pep up the feta whip, and ended up adding a bit of milk to help it thin out. Between the feta and the olives it is quite salty, though. Not sure how much the sun dried tomatoes added to the olive mixture. Served with homemade pita, baba ganoush, a salad, and grilled schwarma-style chicken thighs.

  • Tropical pico

    • VineTomato on June 18, 2024

Delicious and full of flavour. Served with Rancho Gordo Domingo rojo beans and coconut rice.

    • hbakke on September 22, 2024

I'm not a huge fan of fruit salsas, but this had nice flavors and textures. The pineapple was a nice acidic addition.

  • PIzza knots

    • gamulholland on May 27, 2024

I have an 11-year-old, so of course I had to make the recipe that Sara wrote was her young daughter’s favorite. And they are SO GOOD. We used Trader Joe’s pizza dough, the regular kind. My rolling out of the dough was…inexact. Definitely not a rectangle. But they were still delicious— tangy tomato paste, with Parm and Italian seasoning. Everyone loved them and apparently I have to make some more tomorrow. :)

  • Fattoush with za’atar lavash

    • VineTomato on June 18, 2024

The lavash crisps are divine! I think they are worth making on their own with a dip. The salad is wonderful. I added pomegranate which I think improved the recipe and avocado didn't add much but I wanted to use it up. Served with ful meddamus for a perfect summer meal.

  • Peach + lentil salad with black pepper vinaigrette

    • bwhip on September 02, 2024

Wonderful salad - though I did make some modifications. Scallions in lieu of red onion, goat cheese rather than feta, and instead of lentils and quinoa, I used farro. We loved it, great for summer!

  • Summer panzanella salad

    • bwhip on September 06, 2024

Delicious summer salad recipe, one of my favorites. I added some poached chicken breasts to make it more of a meal, and it was excellent.

  • Quinoa salad with watermelon + golden beets

    • julesamomof2 on May 27, 2024

Delicious salad, perfect for the start of summer. I feel like the quinoa could be optional, especially if serving this as a side salad. I ended up using a fraction of the quinoa I made, just to keep the ratios to my personal preference. There is alot going on in this salad and it's not super quick prep but I appreciate that about the salad recipes in this book. Every single one looks amazing!

  • Chopped greens with sweet potatoes, dates, apples + crispy shallots

    • bwhip on November 06, 2024

Excellent salad, with a really tasty and interesting mix of flavors and textures. I used spinach rather than kale, and dried figs rather than dates, because that's what I had. We really liked the double-mustard maple dressing as well. We'll definitely repeat this one.

  • Citrus chicken salad with goat cheese dressing

    • bwhip on October 02, 2024

Excellent, flavorful salad. I think it would be great even without the chicken, but that definitely makes it more of a meal. I’m sure that in prime citrus season it will be even better.

  • Jeweled farro salad with caramelized carrots + pomegranate seeds

    • Lnbrittain on December 31, 2025

There are a lot of little prepped items that compose this salad, but I found it delicious and make it repeatedly. The dressing is especially good. All the flavors complement one another and make a gorgeous total.

  • Lemon and Parm broccoli

    • Lepa on January 23, 2025

The author says this is a house favorite and I can see why. It is pretty special. We loved the combination of roasted broccoli with arugula and the lemon, hot pepper, and basil really created a nice, zippy flavor. Definitely a repeat.

  • Mixed roasted potatoes

    • gamulholland on May 22, 2024

The family was uniformly enthusiastic about the seasonings, herbs, and Parm. Flavorful and delicious. Next time I will probably just use regular (not sweet) potatoes since it turns out my kids prefer the usual spuds.

    • Lepa on February 04, 2025

This was good and my kids especially oved it.

  • Spicy street corn

    • julesamomof2 on May 27, 2024

I love a simple sauteed corn dish, and would choose it any day over straight up corn on the cob but this recipe was not a hit for us. Between the mayo, sour cream, and cheese it just had an excess of dairy. Nobody complained about it, but next time I would keep it simple.

  • Blackened salmon with tropical pico

    • hbakke on September 22, 2024

We enjoyed this colorful dinner. The rice and fruit pico were nice additions to the spiced salmon.

  • Shrimp + pineapple sheet pan tacos

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

This is an excellent quick weeknight dinner and so delicious! I LOVE cooked pineapple in just about anything.

    • bwhip on September 04, 2024

These were excellent! A very nice blend of spicy and sweet, and very easy to prepare. Of course, we also included the recommended accompaniments from the same book - the Avocado-Pepita sauce and Anywhere Slaw. We'll have these again for sure.

    • elianita on December 31, 2025

My family really enjoyed these. I too made the suggested sauce and slaw which took a little time, but it all worked great together.

  • Chicken Milanese with asparagus + gribiche salad

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

I liked this. The chicken was great! The gribiche...I had a harder time with. The hard-boiled eggs threw me off...my husband didn't even eat it. Picked at the asparagus part. I won't make again.

  • Italian turkey burgers with frico crisps

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

Love love love these turkey burgers! Fun and delicious

    • bwhip on September 23, 2024

These were great. The frico crisps were a really nice and unusual touch. My wife hates olives, so I chopped up some sun-dried tomatoes to add to the burger blend instead. I also roasted the red peppers on the grill and peeled the skins. We'll definitely have these again.

  • Cauliflower al pastor bowls

    • hbakke on September 26, 2024

I love a composed bowl meal and this was a nice change from the ordinary. We both liked the different components.

    • Kvill on March 10, 2025

Very flavorful! Would also make for good tacos. This was more like 3 servings for us.

  • Winter bowls with green tahini

    • hbakke on November 18, 2024

Delicious! We loved the seasonings and the different flavors and textures of these bowls. The quinoa/lettuce salad base, roasted potatoes/cauliflower, marinated tofu, topped with green tahini, feta, pickled onions, and pistachios made a great vegetarian dinner. Will repeat.

  • Everyday lentil soup

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

This is my favorite lentil soup. It's hardy, cozy, nourishing, and delicious. It's a go to in the fall/winter months when friends have babies!

    • gamulholland on May 22, 2024

This was hearty and delicious and filling and healthy all at once. Definitely need to make it again, except that I’d like to make loads of other things from the book as well. :)

    • elianita on December 31, 2025

I’ve made this many times and has become a family favorite on a cool day. My kids don’t mind the veggies since I chop them really small. It’s very delicious!

  • Italian farro soup

    • bwhip on September 18, 2024

Delicious, hearty soup. Very easy to prepare, just a bit of chopping of vegetables. We did use the optional spicy Italian sausage, and overall it had a nice kick. I did wind up adding more chicken stock, as it was pretty thick once all the farro had absorbed the liquid.

    • hbakke on November 30, 2024

Perfect soup for a cold, winter day. The farro really soaked up all the liquid after letting this sit overnight, so we had to add more broth to the leftovers. I used kale in place of Swiss chard. I would make this again.

  • Turkey chili

    • Lnbrittain on May 12, 2026

Most chili seems basic but this has a very good balance of flavors.

  • Carrot + red lentil dal

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

I tend to make this once a month in our household (it's on her SKCC website too!). It's my husband's favorite lunch. Definitely NEVER use pre-shredded carrots. So nourishing and flavorful.

  • Cauliflower tikka masala

    • hbakke on October 01, 2024

      Yum! Tasty vegetarian tikka dish.

  • Smoky cauliflower enchiladas

    • julesamomof2 on May 27, 2024

Enchiladas are one of my favorite vegetarian mains and I have tried many versions and these are definitely a make again for me. You have to roast the cauliflower first, then assemble everything and bake again so a bit of a project. Leftovers were great the next day.

  • Mixed mushroom Bolognese

    • VineTomato on June 18, 2024

We enjoyed this - lots of veggies! I made with white wine for a more summery dish. I'll make this again.

    • bwhip on September 08, 2024

Excellent, lovely and flavorful bolognese. Great depth of flavor, not at all difficult to prepare, just lots of chopping. Makes a big batch, which is great as we’ll freeze some.

  • Hawaiian chicken meatball bowls

    • julesamomof2 on May 27, 2024

I have been on a meatball kick lately and these bowls were a nice change of pace. The chicken meatballs were light and paired nicely with the slaw. I used the oven method (she also giving frying directions). I thought the 2 ingredient sauce (Soy Vay + coconut milk) was genius (if a little sweet) and would do that again with some tweaks.

  • Sloppy Jane sweet potato boats

    • hbakke on November 12, 2024

Great dinner, very filling. We loved the slaw. The Sloppy Jane mixture was good, but needed a little extra acid and sugar to match my expectations of a traditional Sloppy Joe. This makes pretty large servings, probably more like 6 servings for us. I would make this again.

  • Browned butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

    • bwhip on December 23, 2024

Wonderful cookies, with great flavor and texture. However, next time I’ll omit the almond extract (which I generally like), as the flavor just overpowers the others, despite the recipe only using 1/2 teaspoon.

  • Cherry almond bundt

    • gamulholland on May 18, 2025

This is easy and absolutely delicious. Moist, very flavorful, fairly dense crumb with pops of cherry here and there. I made it in a very complicated Bundt pan which never releases the cake intact, and when my husband was helping me clean up all the crumbs that fell out when I was taking it out of the pan, he tasted some and said, “Oh my gosh this is good!” It is— I’ll be making it again.

  • Salsa mercado

    • gamulholland on July 28, 2025

Easy and really flavorful— I’m going to add one extra clove of garlic next time to see how it goes, but it’s pretty perfect as-is. Give it a few hours before eating for the flavors to mingle and the raw tomatoes and cilantro to mellow out. Definitely use fire-roasted tomatoes for depth. Also— our son’s lifelong best friend (also known as our bonus son) is Mexican-American and spontaneously told me that this was delicious and savory, and that meant a lot. :)

  • Green tahini

    • hbakke on November 19, 2024

Simple, delicious sauce. I used a combination of scallion, basil, cilantro, and parsley and subbed a whole jalapeño for the half serrano.

  • Avocado pepita sauce

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

I made this to go with fish tacos and my MIL was eating it with a spoon! LOL

  • Quick pickled onions

    • ginger2212 on May 20, 2024

My go-to pickled onions. Don't even need a recipe now.

    • hbakke on November 19, 2024

Great recipe for pickled red onions. They lasted several days in a small crock in the fridge.
