  • Sticky drumsticks

      There was a lot of marinade which gave the drumsticks a nice flavour, but nothing spectacular. It also lacked the 'sticky' factor. I wouldn't bother with this recipe again.

  • Beer-braised spare ribs with pickled cabbage

      These turned out brilliantly and were so delicious. One weird thing though was the recipe stated to watch the ribs as they may dry out, however, when I lifted the foil mine were swimming in a soupy marinade. So after 3 hours I took them out of the pan, turned the oven temp up, lay them on a tray and put them back into the oven where they crisped up nicely. The pickled cabbage is also worth doing as it adds some sweetness to the dish.

      Tasted lovely but I wasn't sure it was worth the effort. I didn't manage to find anywhere to buy the caul fat, but it held together well without it. Made so much bubble and squeak and chutney! Was eating it for days

      It was really nice, but I'm not convinced it was worth the effort of stewing the meat, which added hours to the cook time. I had a lot of washing up at the end

  • Slow-cooked leg of lamb with sag aloo

      the recipe calls for a lot of curry powder but it was all needed, was absorbed into the lamb and sauce and was absolutely delicious. The last 40 mins without cover were extended to 60 mins to make sure the liquid was reduced enough. I'll definitely make the lamb again, but the sag aloo recipe didn't quite work so I'll use the madhur jaffrey recipe next time for that
