Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Orange powder

    • Susiecarol on October 25, 2017

Oranges need to be sliced very thinly as thicker slices take hours to dehydrate

  • Spiced cranberry orange relish

    • lkgrover on November 29, 2019

I liked this, but it was a a little tart. Perhaps it was just my (navel) orange? Next time, I will add an extra tablespoon of honey.

  • Sweet-and-sour marmalade-glazed oven-baked chicken

    • vickster on November 01, 2017

A very tasty, sauced chicken dish. I didn't bake the chicken, since I had boneless, skinless thighs. I followed the suggested note and sauteed the chicken. Then deglazed the pan with a bit of sherry and cooked the glaze.

  • Zucchini and spinach quiche with orange, dates, feta, and thyme

    • lkgrover on March 24, 2020

An excellent quiche (my special treat egg dish); the flavors & textures complement each other beyond my expectations.

  • Curried cod poached in coconut milk, lime, and orange

    • Susiecarol on October 28, 2017

Delicious, light and tangy and very quick & easy to make.

  • Pasta with orange and speck

    • lkgrover on January 01, 2018

A good citrus-infused pasta sauce. Quick & easy, a great weeknight dinner.

    • hirsheys on January 31, 2021

Easy and tasty, though quite rich. I used clementines rather than an orange and had to use the prosciutto option, since I couldn't find speck at the store. I ended up being a bit shy of the correct amount of juice and used a little less cream (didn't have quite enough), but it was fine.

  • Orange cardamom scones with honey-orange spiced butter

    • zabeta on January 10, 2022

I used buttermilk instead of powdered milk, and because I didn't have the orange extract (recipe from the book), I doubled the amount of zest and added a bit more juice (about 5T instead of 4T). I used oranges fresh from my tree and I freshly ground the cardamom seeds in a molcajete. The dough was so wet there was no way I would be able to roll it out, let alone shape it or cut it. I ended up scooping globs of dough with my hands onto parchment paper-covered sheet pans. It turned out all right regardless. The flavor was excellent and the texture was fine (though not exactly how a scone is supposed to be). I will make them again despite the weirdly wet dough.

  • Glazed blood orange yogurt loaf cake

    • zabeta on December 31, 2022

This was okay. The recipe as written is far too sweet. I omitted the glaze and used a little over half of the sugar for the cake, and it was just the right sweetness. That said, it was a lovely cake to have with coffee and a good use of oranges. I'll make it again but will play around with the sweetness levels in the various components.

  • Chocolate orange sponge cake with chocolate orange ganache

    • teandoranges on March 22, 2018

I made this for a neighborhood party. It was a big hit. Beautiful presentation and not too sweet. Perfect for afternoon drinks.

  • My Dad's orange frosty

    • zabeta on January 10, 2022

Delicious! I grew up having orange julius as a special beverage using frozen orange juice from concentrate. My mom's mom made that for her, and she made it for me. Since I now live in California and have a mature orange tree (hence why I bought this book), I used the variation with fresh oranges. I made it for my son and felt like I was carrying on a tradition!
