Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Grandma pie with mozz and basil

    • EmilyR on September 13, 2023

This is a very thick pan pizza but it reminds me some I've had in the city. I was happy with how easy this came together since my other pizza dough takes days. The kids were big fans.

  • Grilled flank steak

    • swiand on November 03, 2025

The adults loved this. The kids wanted more flavor.

  • Marsala and mushroom pasta bake

    • ethedens on September 20, 2024

Delicious and pretty easy. We have a dairy allergy in the household so we used soy milk instead of dairy milk and didn't do the final 10 minute bake. Still very good. 4/5

  • Chicken and prosciutto rolls

    • ethedens on December 12, 2023

These did cook all the way through which was great! I will say it took me longer than expected as there are really 4 sides to sear, not 2. And it was a bit salty for my taste but that may have been my prosciutto. I did all 3 parts of this menu and found it surprisingly easy to throw all 3 of them together. Less work than I thought!

  • Maple-glazed roast chicken

    • ethedens on December 08, 2024

So good. 4.5/5. Might reduce sauce so it's thicker next time

  • Roasted acorn squash

    • ethedens on December 12, 2023

Super simple, super delicious. Would absolutely do again.

  • Spinach salad

    • ethedens on December 12, 2023

Made a few subs: no goat cheese due to a dairy allergy, cashews since I forgot pistachios, and kale instead of spinach because I wanted to use it up. As I made it this was delicious and easy to put together. Would absolutely do again.

  • Meatballs

    • Acarroll on July 17, 2025

Love. Kids loved them. Made as written except adapted to be dairy-free, and the seasoning was perfect.

  • Pork tenderloin schnitzel

    • ethedens on December 18, 2023

Very good. Would absolutely make again.

  • Mushroom gravy

    • ethedens on December 18, 2023

Good, but got too thick during 20 min simmer even as heat was as low as it could go. Felt like it was maybe missing a bit of complexity.

  • Chicken paprikash

    • ethedens on February 15, 2024

Absolutely delicious. Would absolutely make again. Spatzle was nice bonus but not necessary. Green onions very good on the top. Also prefer it when you shred chicken after cooking to soak up more sauce. This is also delicious mixed with the leftover winter kasha recipe from I Could Nosh

  • Spaetzle

    • ethedens on February 15, 2024

Pretty good, but I like Molly Yeh's recipe better. May have overcooked some pieces but it is also quite hard to do them fast enough to pull after they float for 30 seconds.

  • American goulash

    • swiand on November 25, 2025

Not the goulash my Grandmother made. More like homemade hamburger helper. Tasty though and a family pleaser.

  • Classic meatloaf

    • crandall57 on June 08, 2025

We really enjoyed this meatloaf. The glaze is possibly the best part. I served it with garlic mashed potatoes, green beans with tomatoes and bacon, and stewed tomatoes. We will make this again.

  • Pork meatballs in sauerkraut

    • ethedens on January 19, 2024

This was so good and pretty simple. Would absolutely make again. Delicious. I did halve the recipe and also halve the meatballs (they were done after 15 min in oven). Also delicious with kimchi

  • Apple and Brussels sprouts salad

    • EmilyR on September 13, 2023

This salad is dead simple, but refreshing, filling, and healthy. I like to have shaved Brussels sprouts on hand and then just doctor them up as needed for a quick meal.

    • ethedens on January 19, 2024

I second what Emily R said. So simple, so good. Would absolutely make again.

    • crandall57 on December 29, 2024

Easy to make and delicious. A real crowd pleaser. Leftovers were good the next day.

  • Stuffed cabbage in tomato sauce

    • ethedens on March 01, 2024

This was absolutely delicious. Would maybe add a little water to the tomato sauce since it was a little thick but otherwise great. 4.5/5

  • Green bean casserole

    • eroachTN on December 15, 2025

I couldn't find dried mushrooms so that was left off. I also kept the mushrooms rather than remove them and used less water. This recipe was a huge hit! Everyone loved it.

    • swiand on December 25, 2025

Really good when you get the mushroom gravy and shallots with the green beans in one bite. Next time I will cut up the green beans into 1" pieces.

  • Ricotta cornmeal pound cake

    • EmilyR on September 13, 2023

You could easily omit some of the sugar for this cake, especially if adding jam. It slices nicely (especially after chilled) and quickly disappeared.
