Gigi"s Carrot Cake - great carrot cake. I think it's the crystalized ginger or maybe the brandy soaked currants that make it so good.

  • Nickel5759 on April 15, 2012

It has my favorite recipe for key lime pie.

  • Kicked-up spinach and artichoke dip

    • Dollhouse_Cuisine on April 02, 2024

      Very good.

    • Dcampos on December 29, 2024

I've been making this for years. Works well with frozen spinach. Can make the day before and bake before serving.

  • Antipasto pasta salad

    • leah_drlmj4 on March 24, 2026

The one thing I’ve successfully taken to a potluck, but have also made for my family for dinner. It is well beloved. I use fresh cherry tomatoes instead of sun dried. 5 stars

  • Couscous salad

    • susan_e53swm on April 18, 2026

I’ve taken this salad to potlucks at work a few times. It’s delicious and stays fresh without refrigeration. I usually put a couple freezer pouches in the bowl carrier to keep it from getting warm. People generally bring desserts so my salad always gets eaten. I usually have at least one person ask for the recipe.

  • Emeril's classic seafood gumbo

    • Rinshin on July 05, 2021

First time having gumbo without okra. Taste of roux and amber beer comes through so if amber beer is not something you like, may be best to use lighter beer. Made as written. Although I liked it, I may prefer ones with okra. But my husband really liked this version. Photo added.

  • Cold cucumber soup

    • breakthroughc on August 10, 2021

This is a delicious cold soup. Lot of flavor and I will make again. I used my bounty of lemon cucumbers from the garden peeked and seeded them. It needs to sit for a good day for the flavors to meld. I only made a half of recipe and ended up with about 8 cups of soup. This is a soup where about a cup is a good serving size as a starter or a part of a lunch.

  • Mexican breakfast casserole

    • breakthroughc on July 26, 2021

Bam! This is one delicious breakfast casserole. I made a half recipe in an 8 z 8 pan. I also dialed the spice level back by using Monterey Jack cheese instead of pepper jack, It was plenty spicy and the right decisions for our palates. I will definitely make again and it is a great entertaining recipe.

      Need 2 chickens - serves 8 - 10

  • Chicken chili with cornbread topping

    • rittingerv on January 02, 2024

      Cornbread needed longer to cook.

  • Kickin' chili

    • ereibel on January 28, 2012

This is my go to chili recipe! We love it.

    • Breadcrumbs on July 31, 2015

      p. 193 - I’ve had good luck with Emeril’s recipes so when an EYB search for Chili yielded this recipe I thought I’d give it a try We loved this chili. What sets it apart from other recipes I’ve tried is the dark beer, the quantity of dark beer to be specific. There are 2 x 12oz bottles of dark beer, 1 x 28oz can of tomatoes and a tbsp of tomato paste in the “sauce” for this chili in addition to the herbs and spices of course. The recipe is also quite hearty with 2lbs of beef and 3 cups of cooked kidney beans going into the mix. I halved the recipe since I wasn’t expecting a crowd and the quantities above represent this. I think the beer brought a depth of flavour to the chili and perhaps a little bitterness but bitter in a good way as it really balanced the richness of the meat and beans. I’d happily make this again.

    • Dollhouse_Cuisine on March 26, 2022

      Really good!

  • Asian pork tenderloins

  • Funky Southwest pork loin

    • Dollhouse_Cuisine on December 25, 2024

With Mojo paste, p. 203, not indexed in old-timey EYB indexing protocols.

  • Slow-cooked pork roast with barbecue sauce

    • XXOOL on February 18, 2017

I needed to cook my roast for several hours longer than the recipe called for but it was delicious. I thought the barbeque sauce lacked depth of flavor which corrected nicely with a little balsamic fig vinegar. Got rave reviews from my husband and friends.

  • Mexican rice casserole

    • vickster on November 04, 2015

Very flavorful rice dish with lots of tomatoes, peppers and saffron. Makes a large pot. Probably will half recipe next time.

  • Miss Hilda's baked beans

  • Beer bread

    • dc151 on August 29, 2021

I'm not a super big fan of a lot of quick breads, but I really wanted something homemade to go with dinner tonight without having time to do a yeast bread. Wow, this was fantastic! Nice and moist, flavorful. And super simple! Made with a lager.

    • breakthroughc on July 26, 2022

I wanted something to serve with an entree salad and I had all the ingredients on hand. This is a really good beer bread. Very quick to make and was moist and flavorful. I used an IPA as that is what my husband drinks. It wasn't as heavy as some beer breads I have had. A nice pantry bread and I think you could use about any type of beer.

  • Gigi's carrot cake

    • breakthroughc on March 30, 2024

I should have abandoned this recipe when I realized there is an error in my book. It calls for 3 sticks of butter, and 2 cups of sugar, but no directions on what to do with it. I creamed the butter and sugar and proceeded with the recipe. My inner baker knew I should line the pans with parchment, but the recipe didn’t call for it, so I didn’t. My cakes would not come out of the pans. They also didn’t rise very well. The taste is delicious. The internet to the rescue and I’m serving Carrot Cake trifle tonight. I won’t attempt this recipe again.

  • Mr. Lou's Key lime pie

    • KALW on February 01, 2024

The flavor was fantastic but it didn’t set well (following the directions exactly). Runny but delicious.
