    Casserole of mashed potatoes (kartofel'naya zapekanka) with dried mushroom sauce (gribnoi sauce). Think quite rich mashed potatoes with butter, milk, and eggs; top with fried onions and a layer of sour cream. Serve with a dried black mushrooms gravy. This is a very successful way to dress-up mashed potatoes (and perhaps convince your grandson not to call them ruined potatoes).
