I just reorganized my cookbooks by color so now I have a rainbow bookshelf! I have so many cookbooks I figured it was time they became part of the decor. :) Anyway, my green and purple sections are kind of small so I want to buy more books with a green or purple spine and you cant usually see the spines when shopping online. So, I would love to know your favorite cookbooks with a green or purple spine. I am an American living in Europe so I am equally happy with U.S. or U.K. book recommendations. Thanks!

I recently bought Elizabeth David Classics it is Purple, actually more of a mauve. Better still it is hardback and contains a compilation of Mediterranean Food, French Country Cooking and Summer Cooking all for A$23.69 at Book Depository UK. today.

Lovely to visualize! These are all highly recommendable books, hardcovers with dustjackets except as noted.

Green:
Vegetable Literacy - Deborah Madison (deep forest green -- echoes the onion foliage on the front cover)
The Cuisine of Hungary - George Lang (bright Kelly green)
Mexican Everyday - Rick Bayless (lime green; this one's the hardback cover w/o dust jacket, but I'm pretty sure the d.j. spine is the same; see EYB cover image.)

Purple:
The Heart of the Plate - Mollie Katzen (dusky dark purple; this is w/o jacket and may not have had one, but if it did it was same colors)

(Apologies for the titles not being links; I'm using a Kindle Fire and its Silk browser, and the EYB editing tools aren't visible.)

Green: Burma - Naomi Duguid

What we eat when we eat alone - Deborah Madison (again)

Nigel Slater's real food (actually green and blue stripes)

Purple: Sophie Grigson's Country kitchen

In English I have "Let's cook Italian" from Gennaro in double if you want to complete your collection for free I can send that to you (I live in the UK but can also post from France or Luxembourg as I am triangulating at the moment).

Otherwise I have (but no duplicates for those sorry!! :)  "Great British Food revival" (but turquoise-ish green) and "Le grain de sel de Bernard" (though that last one is in French)

I love Susie Middleton's three "Green" books and the spines are all different shades of green. Deborah Madison's Vegetable Literacy also has a green spine.

I haven't cooked from Eat This Poem yet, but it's a really wonderful read. I'm also a fan of pretty much all of Lori Longbotham's books, but it's her Luscious Berry Desserts that has a lighter purple spine. Both of these purple ones are on the short side only being around 8 inches tall, if that needs to be taken into consideration.

I would love to see a photo of your newly organized shelves!

Those are the colours that are underrepresented on my shelves too! I thought about arranging by colour when I was reshelving my books recently but decided not to because I wouldn't be able to cope with disproportionate distribution of colours. I have recently bought a beautiful purple-spined book though https://www.eatyourbooks.com/library/77219/miss-masala - AND it's got loads of very doable Indian recipes that I want to try.

@ Yildiz100: Christine's sentiment here is widely shared, I'm betting:
:: I would love to see a photo of your newly organized shelves! ::

Are you going to assign your EYB books color bookmarks?

Wow, thank you all so much! I am having a lot of fun going through these!

What fun! I would love to see a picture of your books. I am trying not to repeat, but may have missed a couple: PURPLE One of my favorite books of all time, World Vegetarian, by Madhur Jeffrey (though I think this has been rerprinted many times, with various covers, perhaps not purple) PURPLE/GREEN (could be used on your shelves as a transition from purple to green) Also one of my favorite books, Indian Cooking Unfolded, by Raghavan Iyer GREEN Barefoot in Paris, by Ina Garten Yolele! By Pierre Thiam The Soul of a New Cuisine, by Marcus Samuelsson

I still can't figure out how to create neat links in this forum, but from my collection:

Green

The Frugal Gourmet Whole Family Cookbook: Recipes and Reflections for Contemporary Living, by Jeff Smith

The Oxford Companion To Food, by Alan Davidson (big, fat, and bright green)

Real Food for Cats: 50 Vet-Approved Recipes to Please the Feline Gastronome (cover looks blueish here, but my copy is definitely green--spine and background color of the front cover)

The Vegan Kitchen, by Freya Dinshah

Vegetarian Cooking: Kitchen Library (a little grayish as you can see from the front cover here, but spine still qualifies as green)

Purple

Feast at Your Fingertips: The Ultimate Catalog of Fabulous Foods by Mail, by Stephen Manley

whitewoods - thanks for reviving this topic. It's a good one.

To add links within a post, highlight the text where you want the link embedded. If it's a book title copy it so you can find the book in the Library. Get the URL for that book page (search by the book title, click the book title then copy the page address in your browser address bar) then go back to the Forum page. Your book title will still be highlighted, click the links icon in the panel at the top of the text box (this icon only shows when text is highlighted). Paste the URL into the link URL box and click Insert at the bottom. Your link is now inserted. I have done this for the books in your post.

We do ask that if members are inserting links off the site e.g. to a ingredient provider, that you make the link open a new tab. You do this by selecting the field Target and select the option "Open in new window (_blank).

Thanks, Jane. I think this is the key piece of information that I was missing:

I too find it necessary  to arrange books by spine colour both for aesthetic/natural order of things considerations and because it's a quicker way to finding the book for which one is looking. Would the site consider adding this as a search or sort function?
