Want to like this book more than I do. Color of photographs oddly off-putting.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Parmesan fricos

    • Globegal on January 28, 2024

These accompany the Creamy tomato-basil soup. This was way too salty for me & there is only the cheese in this recipe. While they were easy to make, could never really tell when I was supposed to turn over. So, ended up over-cooking some then undercooking others.

  • Taco salad with cumin-lime-cilantro dressing

    • Wlow on August 17, 2022

Blast from the past (1970s)! Very good with approximate amounts of salad ingredients, dressing exact and delicious. Added cooked Soy-Rizo sausage, pepitas, salsa. Nice on a hot summer night.

  • Spaghetti alla carbonara

    • Wlow on November 17, 2025

9/2016 Very nice, but T (age 10) not interested, N (7) didn’t like! 11/2025 liked using turkey bacon, with garlic broccolini on the side. Try variation with mushrooms…

  • Linguine with spinach and peas

    • Wlow on August 01, 2013

Kids loved it with linguine 3/13, brown rice fusilli 5/13; but T wouldn’t try it with w/w elbows 1/19 and N and I found no-hum. Needed full amount of peas and spinach, probably would be best with white pasta. Added toasted pine nuts.

    • Wlow on December 27, 2017

Delicious, both kids liked. Use more spinach. Aleppo pepper is good, brown rice fusilli or whole-grain shells (Barilla), pecorino. Have also topped with pine nuts instead of cheese and another time with feta.

  • Chinese-style peanut noodles

    • Wlow on March 31, 2023

Kids, FiL & I loved this.

  • Vegetable-tofu stir-fry with orange-ginger glaze

    • Wlow on November 17, 2025

Very good using broccoli, green beans, red onion, red bell pepper

  • Stir-fried broccoli beef

    • wester on October 19, 2015

This was very good, somehow it tasted just right. However, the broccoli needed four minutes instead of the given two. There was still plenty of crunch, with two minutes it would have been practically raw. With all her emphasis on taking the cooking times literally I thought that was too big a difference. And she could have told us that seasoned vinegar is only seasoned with salt and sugar, so it's easy to do it yourself.
