Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Cherry & almond cake

    • csmith1 on May 05, 2026

Very easy and very tasty! Added more flaked almonds on top than the recipe suggests

  • Marmalade coffee cake

    • csmith1 on May 27, 2026

I was very excited about making this, but the result was only ok. The taste of marmalade was overwhelmed by the coffee. Also, the syrup doesn't really work out as a syrup - it doesn't have enough sugar to be syrupy, and the quantity isn't enough to cover the whole cake. It turns the top of the cake dark brown, while the one in the photo in the book is pale golden, and the pieces of peel in the syrup end up sitting limply on the cake, dyed brown by the coffee and looking a little like slugs ??

  • Orange & hazelnut cake

    • csmith1 on May 05, 2026

A super cake, which will definitely go into my repertoire! The mixture started to curdle when I added the orange juice immediately after the eggs, as she directs, so I stirred in some flour with it and that solved the problem. Highly recommend this recipe and the cake!

  • Spiced carrot & coconut cake

    • csmith1 on April 22, 2026

Really liked this - it's not too sweet, and the texture is good.

  • Vanilla & bay loaf

    • csmith1 on May 18, 2026

Delicious, delicate flavour. I used dried bay leaves - I'm sure would be v tasty with fresh

  • Peach, ginger & almond crumble

    • Pamsy on September 09, 2024

This was a great dish to use up 5 tired and scruffy nectarines. The ginger (I used 1tsp Ground) really makes it along with the large quantity of flaked almonds. Super for a Sunday lunch pud. Good cold the next evening.

  • Rhubarb & vanilla tart

    • Pamsy on May 02, 2024

Used Jus-rol gluten free puff pastry. Nice touch with the chopped pine nuts and brown sugar, could also use almonds or hazelnuts. Served with custard. Good reward for not a lot of effort.

  • Zoe's granny's fruit cake

    • Futuregirl23 on December 18, 2022

This is a really delicious fruit cake, and it holds together really well. I fed it brandy once a week for around 5 weeks before I needed it.
