Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Croque monsieur

    • RosieB on May 28, 2016

This is a nice easy and tasty sandwich made with local ham sliced off the bone and good cheese. A perfect easy dinner when I could not be bothered to cook.

  • Hummus 1

  • Thai corn fritters

  • Cauliflower, chilli and coconut soup

    • debkellie on May 25, 2024

I was dubious about the combination, but it made a delightfully different soup. Nicely warming for a cold winter's evening!

  • Sweetcorn chowder

    • Lafro on March 26, 2022

      A very tasty soup.

  • Spaghetti with silverbeet, raisins and pine nuts

    • debkellie on December 20, 2021

A very pleasant, quick, week night pasta... took Monday night taste buds to next level ;-). Would definitely make it again.. (I had no oranges, so instead soaked the raisins in Mandarin Napoleon)..

  • Macaroni cheese

    • debkellie on August 05, 2020

Of the 3 variations we can highly recommend "Michele's macaroni cheese" (p.181): the description they give it is correct: "Sounds weird: tastes fantastic". Worth trying, even if you don't like Mac 'n' Cheese.

  • Thai green chicken and cashew curry

    • RosieB on February 17, 2016

This was a nice curry and better for using a really good fresh green curry paste.

  • Tunisian lamb shanks

    • Lafro on March 10, 2026

Very simple to make. The broth was very thin - but the flavour was all there. Cooked it longer than 2 hours which made it very tender.

  • Tunisian vegetable and chickpea tagine

    • pennyvr on September 12, 2014

A delicious way to get lots of veggies! I'm not sure about the zucchini - I deviated from the recipe and cut them into 3cm pieces, which took longer than 10min to cook down. Also the flavours didn't really infuse into the pieces of zucchini. I wonder if perhaps they are supposed to remain crunchy? I found this amount of chilli nicely hot while still allowing the other flavours to come through.

  • Hot Thai salmon and lychee salad

    • debkellie on February 11, 2026

I was using up tinned lychees (opened to make a lovely cocktail) and an EYB search brought up this recipe. Had this as a main course salad for 2. It was exceedingly tasty! Thoroughly recommend!

  • Leek and goat's cheese quiche

    • pennyvr on August 25, 2016

Made a bit too much filling for my (24cm) tart tin - should probably reduce by 1 egg and similar proportion of cream.

  • Chocolate fudge cake

    • debkellie on August 01, 2015

Really good. Moist, and great mocha flavour. Took 30 minutes longer than suggested.

  • Sherry-soaked raisin and almond cake

    • debkellie on July 07, 2015

Today's "cake of the day" : I subbed in cream sherry for sweet (Harvey's Bristol of course): looking forward to sampling the final variant - the batter was delicious!

  • Lemon tea cake (Madeira cake)

    • debkellie on July 04, 2021

An abundance of lemons on the tree: this was a really easy cake. Taste is beautiful.
