Notes about Recipes in this book

  • The perfect date and banana porridge

    • Melanie on September 05, 2015

Delicious and comforting breakfast for cold days. Not much additional effort, definitely worth it.

    • e_ballad on November 18, 2017

Ok if made as per the recipe using water, excellent if made using milk instead.

  • Honeyed breakfast polenta

    • Melanie on July 24, 2014

This was a nice change from oatmeal porridge however I will probably only make occasionally (seems more one dimensional in flavour and texture). Bring polenta up to boil with liquid, cooks quite quickly.

  • Yoghurt pancakes with drunken brown sugar salted pears

    • e_ballad on February 13, 2017

I love this cookbook to pieces, but we didn't enjoy these pancakes - just too dense. The pears were tasty, but just a touch too salty for our liking.

  • Michelle's sweet spiced oxtail and parsnip soup

    • e_ballad on August 20, 2016

I love this book, but unfortunately, the flavours didn't shine through for this recipe. I think it needed some sharpness to lift it. For the lengthy cooking time, I don't think I'll do a re-do.

  • Cabbage and speck risotto

    • e_ballad on August 14, 2016

We weren't expecting great things based on the ingredients, but this risotto was fantastic. Perfect winter fare with a glass or two of red wine.

  • Buckwheat polenta (Taragna)

    • e_ballad on April 12, 2018

I wonder if I’m using a completely different buckwheat polenta to the author, despite the packet indicating similar cooking times. This rapidly turned into a solid mass, rather than the smooth flowing polenta shown in the accompanying photo. I’ve made multiple adjustments to the liquid components but still didn’t achieve the desired consistency.

  • Cottage pie with mustard cheese topping

    • lou_weez on March 09, 2018

A super tasty pie. I scaled back the mustard and horseradish by half, as I wanted the kids to eat it, and it was loved by all.

  • Caramelised parsnips with feta

    • e_ballad on January 20, 2017

Love this as a side dish for roast lamb.

  • Paprika braised chickpeas with kale

    • Melanie on September 05, 2015

I loved this dish, great stand alone lunch. Interesting mix of flavours, I liked the use of cinnamon in this. I substituted tinned chickpeas.

  • Slice

    • e_ballad on June 08, 2020

Unapologetically old-fashioned, this was ready in 25mins from ingredients that I always have on hand. A big hit with the kids.

  • Macadamia and golden syrup butternut biscuits

    • Melanie on August 22, 2015

I think these needed a little longer to ensure they were deep golden to the centre of the biscuit. Nice flavour. These spread a lot.

  • Rabbit ragu

    • e_ballad on December 31, 2016

I loved this, as did my hubby... until he realised he was eating 'subterranean chicken'. One of the few recipes I use for wild rabbit.
