MISO SALMON AND NOODLE SALAD - this salad is outstanding and my personal favourite! Some people might find the dressing a bit complicated to make as you have to use several recipes to achieve the final product. This should not be a deterrent because it is so delicious, the recipes are easy, and you end up with two very different ready made bottles of dressing- both are delicious. Refrigerated, they keep longer than recommended in the book.

  • Frogcake on July 24, 2021

PEACH AND PROsCIUTTO SALAD - excellent! I seared the prosciutto to add more crisp. Nice this time of year when Ontario peaches are out.

  • Frogcake on July 24, 2021

SPRING FARRO SALAD - great salad! The “dressed farro” is genius - this method imparts a lovely flavour to this grain. I serve this with roasted, sliced duck breast on top. My guests loved it!

  • SharpKitchen on April 11, 2021

MANDY’S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES —These cookies are fabulous. Made with melted browned butter, these cookies are so easy to make and immediately became a family favourite.

  • coryelizabeth on January 16, 2021

SHANGHAI SALAD -- This is terrific, especially the sweet & sour dressing. A full serving would make for a generous vegetarian dinner for one; a half serving is more than enough for a lunch.

  • Frogcake on August 08, 2020

HABIBI SALAD - another great salad in this book, served with the delicious turmeric tahini vinaigrette. There’s a perfect balance of texture and flavours in this salad, which could be served as a filling vegetarian main or a side dish with anything. Absolutely delicious!

  • Frogcake on August 08, 2020

FANCY PANTS NICOISE SALAD - this is such a great cookbook, developed by two sisters Mandy and Rebecca Wolfe owners of Mandy’s Gourmet Salads in Montreal. Served with Provincial vinaigrette, it’s perfectly balanced. The two lemons make for a perfect citrusy dressing. I used two generous tablespoons of anchovy cream from southern France instead of eight anchovies. For a quick, lunch or supper, you can substitute the salmon for canned tuna in olive oil.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Rise and shine [smoothie]

    • marissa_lgp76x on May 09, 2026

This was a great way to start my morning! So yummy, I used coconut milk for my milk of choice and instead of almond butter I used peanut butter.

  • Shanghai salad

    • Jviney on March 17, 2022

Loved loved loved this salad. It was bright and sweet and sour and crunchy with so many different textures. A couple of the elements can be made early and it was really quick to put together with that done. Don’t skip the ramen crunch. I’d add more avocado next time.

    • Beebopalulu on November 26, 2023

      Sweet, savory, crunchy, moresome

    • Deja1 on October 01, 2024

Really great salad. Loved the crunch. I doubled the recipe and added some diced chicken and it was just enough for two.

    • vegabond2016 on July 27, 2025

Delicious salad with different elements that work so well together. Will most definitely repeat!

    • spenceral on September 02, 2025

Delicious salad and easy to prep. Added shredded lemon pepper chicken for protein

  • Mexi salad

    • Jviney on April 07, 2022

So good as written. I added some cotija cheese, but the salad didn't really need it. If the lettuce is chopped finely, it's great scooped into whole tortilla chips, or easy enough to crush them up to add them. Loved it.

  • La belle salad

    • cookingbychapter on December 31, 2021

Substituted maple syrup for the agave and soy sauce for the tamari given grocery store limitations, and this salad and dressing were both delicious!

    • halfasleep on April 12, 2022

The pita chips get soggy pretty quick, you need to work quickly when mixing the salad and serve right away, and the carrots should not be shredded too thin as they seem to clump together and or get lost in the rest of the ingredients. Otherwise a decent salad.

  • Tokyo salad

    • jenburkholder on October 25, 2021

Nice salad. I subbed radicchio for the red cabbage and only used romaine for the lettuce. The only bit I wasn't fond of was the broccoli, but I tend to find raw broccoli off-putting, so this isn't surprising. Lightly steamed would have been better. I also used less dressing, since 1/3 cup felt generous. Overall tasty but probably not unique enough to repeat (so much chopping!).

    • katiesue28 on September 25, 2024

Delicious! As with all the salads in the book, it makes A LOT (and says it's 1 serving!!!). I also ended up using only romaine as the salad was so large already, as I didn't think it needed the additional lettuce.

    • anothersarah on April 06, 2025

The roasted tofu is delicious and this salad gives excellent crunch but overall I found it a little lacking. I added avocado for more sustenance and would consider adding edamame in the future. My biggest issue was the dressing - way too punchy and needed much less ACV. Agree with others that just romaine would have been fine.

  • The fave

    • Jviney on June 27, 2024

This was so good. I made it on faith; it didn’t seem unusual or outstanding in any way, but it’s excellent. The head note talked about sliced turkey although that ingredient isn’t listed. I added it anyway and would do it again. So good.

  • Wolfe salad

    • leekeats on March 05, 2026

Very satisfying. Makes for a good lunch. I prefer subbing out the walnuts and parmesan flakes for roasted, salted sunflower seeds. I also added shredded carrots. The avocado I felt was unnecessary. The extra salt from the sunflower seeds adds to the salad, it was a bit underwhelming / bland beforehand. Parmesan is also "salty," but it wasn't as good as the sunflower seeds (and not as healthy). And you still keep the protein and fats by swapping the walnuts for sunflower seeds. It also means I have to keep fewer ingredients on hand in my pantry.

  • Lumberjack salad

    • Jviney on February 13, 2023

Big hit at a Super Bowl party. Well worth the effort to make the pita chips and dressing for this one. I was expecting this salad to feel heavy with all the meat components, but it didn’t at all.

    • sydlikestocook on April 09, 2024

Used store bought pita chips, made dressing. So good! Would up the amount of mushrooms next time for a little more veggie.

  • Mediterranean salmon [salad]

    • Jviney on February 03, 2023

This was really satisfying. One of my guests avoids sugar, so I served it with Green Goddess Dressing instead of Wild Goddess Dressing. The marinade on the salmon was great, the herbs hit a nice note, just a lovely salad.

    • calguire on May 09, 2025

This is a really delicious and satisfying salad. I also served it with the Green Goddess Dressing and it was great.

  • Habibi salad

    • jenburkholder on April 01, 2024

Oh this one’s good - all the textures and flavors harmonize perfectly. Only tweaks were decreasing the oil in the dressing (I like mine sharper) and using more chickpeas and more lentils. The heavy turmeric and sweet potato gives it a hint of “curried chicken salad” in the best way.

  • Wild sage salad

    • halfasleep on June 09, 2022

I'm mad about savoury sweet flavours, so this salad is right up my alley. It's easily my favourite recipe out of the 5 I have tried from this book so far, with the following modifications: 1) sub hoisin duck for pulled hoisin mushrooms 2) little less balsamic vinegar in the dressing to reduce the tang 3) toast pecans on stove top vs. roasting in oven.

  • Waldorf salad

    • vegabond2016 on December 31, 2024

I made this for Christmas dinner, and everyone liked it. Will make again.

    • tricia_0t3spw on April 11, 2026

Love this salad. Made this for family and then again for guests.

  • Deluxe Waldorf salad

  • Curry quinoa salad

    • jenburkholder on December 06, 2021

This was good. I used the roasted marinated tempeh from the same book rather than chickpeas, and that change went well. For the dressing, I did use curry powder and honey rather than paste and chutney. The dressing was great, very retro, but in a nice way. Overall, the salad was quite good, but I'm not convinced that every element is really adding something - the red pepper, for example, could easily be omitted to cut down the chopping.

    • anothersarah on April 08, 2025

Enjoyed this, especially the dressing, but felt like it was missing something. I almost wanted a warm version (roasted carrots might be nice) to really showcase the curry dressing. As is, the thick dressing sort of overpowered the tender greens. The cilantro and roasted cashews were especially nice.

  • Roma salad

    • jenburkholder on September 20, 2022

Very good salad, the dressing is delightful and complements the ingredients. I omitted the optional pine nuts but added half a can of chickpeas to make a more well-rounded meal.

  • Spicy smoke show salad

    • katiesue28 on February 02, 2024

This was a delicious and hearty salad. As I don't have the smoked jalapeno hot sauce that is the namesake of this recipe, I blended a few pickled jalapeno slices into the dressing, which gave it a nice kick. I'd be interested in trying this with only the cumin vinaigrette next time.

  • The Kaiser (Vegan Caesar)

    • jenburkholder on September 01, 2023

Omitted the avocado and mint due to availability, but otherwise made more or less as written. I wasn’t a huge fan of the dressing - had a lot of better vegan Caesar-style dressings, this one had a weird texture from the silken tofu (which I do generally like). Flavors didn’t quite mesh. Not bad, but wouldn’t make again.

  • Cajun shrimp salad

    • katiesue28 on May 29, 2025

Delicious. I worried if the cilantro ginger dressing would be too gingery for cajun spices, but it worked beautifully. I recommend decreasing the amount of honey in the dressing by a little bit. A bright, refreshing salad that is perfect for summer!

  • Peach and prosciutto salad

    • lacreshia_2ffko3 on May 12, 2026

My favorite summer salad!!! When package not in season I use nectarines

  • Souvlaki salad

    • Jviney on May 04, 2022

Okay, yes, this is a bit of a project because if you make it as written, it's four recipes plus assembling the salad. I thought it was absolutely worth it - all the components complemented each other so well and it was a super satisfying salad. Will make again for sure.

    • tricia_0t3spw on June 03, 2026

Very good. A little heavy on the garlic, but it will keep the vampires away.

  • September salad

    • Yildiz100 on January 13, 2026

Nice ingredients but the recipe is full of errors. It looks like they scaled it down from a larger recipe but only updated some of the ingredients. It serves 1 but has 2 whole apples, a half cup pine nuts, and a cup of parm. It also calls for 1 cup of oil to roast 2 cups of vegetables! So use this as inspiration, but don't follow the recipe.

  • Mock chicken

    • VineTomato on December 23, 2022

Very good but a bit too salty

  • Roasted marinated tempeh

    • jenburkholder on December 06, 2021

Quite good. Neutralizes the tempeh's flavor effectively, and the marinade is tasty (if a bit sweet, I might cut that down). Mixed in with the Curry Quinoa Salad instead of the chickpeas.

  • Roasted marinated salmon

    • Jviney on February 03, 2023

I was surprised that the marinade stayed on this through cooking and serving, but I did really like it and it was a nice complement to the Mediterranean salad. I'd make it again!

  • Creamy oregano chicken

    • Jviney on May 04, 2022

This is essentially chicken salad by a different name, but I loved it on the Souvlaki salad, I loved it with the homemade pita chips, and I loved it when I tasted it by itself for seasoning.

    • tricia_0t3spw on June 03, 2026

This was a good chicken salad and we be good on its own or in a sandwich format.

  • Roasted marinated tofu

    • jenburkholder on October 25, 2021

Very good - extremely flavorful. I was surprised how prominently the citrus flavors came through. The baking instructions are very strange, though - there's no way it would be "golden brown and crispy" in the 13 minutes called for. I think I ended up roasting it for 35-40. Also, it explicitly states NOT to use parchment, but with tofu, that's a recipe for disaster. I did, and it didn't ruin anything at all.

    • anothersarah on April 06, 2025

Very good tofu recipe. I also roasted it for way longer and it didn't end up super crispy but good enough. Definitely adding to my rotation and might try freezing tofu beforehand to play with texture/get it crispier. Also would make slightly larger.

    • Justagirleatingcake on March 30, 2026

I didn't like this marinade. The flavour combination is odd and even airfrying there's no way to get it even remotely crispy.

  • Roasted chicken breast

    • sydlikestocook on April 09, 2024

      Very easy. Solid base recipe.

    • tricia_0t3spw on June 03, 2026

I have made this several times. Just a simple roast chicken breast. I never thought to put steak spice on a chicken breast until I read this cookbook.

  • Homemade pita chips

    • halfasleep on April 12, 2022

Amazing homemade pita chips that taste for little to no effort? Yes please. Don't be shy with the salt and pepper and make sure to get the chips nice and lightly browned. These would be lovely with some dip.

  • Homemade garlic and thyme pita chips

    • Jviney on May 04, 2022

Loved these. I experimented a little, baking some that were separated into two triangles and baking some as a double layer. They were excellent both ways, super accompaniment to the Creamy Oregano Chicken.

    • tricia_0t3spw on June 03, 2026

I love making these pita chips. These tasted really good.

  • Crispy ramen noodles

    • Jviney on March 17, 2022

These were so quick to make but they added a lot to the Shanghai salad.

    • VineTomato on December 23, 2022

Lovely crunchy and different salad topping

    • Yildiz100 on April 20, 2024

Delicious and easier to get a good result than I expected.

  • Mandy's house [dressing]

    • Yildiz100 on January 13, 2026

Pretty nice, but a little sweet for my taste. Reduce maple syrup by 25% next time. Someone who likes poppy seed dressing, for example , would probably like this just as it is.

    • vegabond2016 on May 09, 2026

For me, it's the perfect combination of tangy and sweet. So good I wish I could drink a whole bottle of it!

  • Tamari [dressing]

    • jenburkholder on October 25, 2021

Good, but not to my taste as written. I tend to like my dressings with a lot more bite, so I halved the oil, and that was just about perfect for me. Nutritional yeast in a dressing is something I've never done before, but I will again! Used on the Tokyo Salad.

    • cookbook.aficionada on May 16, 2022

I just made this the other day. I really disliked this recipe. I love Mandy’s House Dressing. This one was very unappealing.

    • VineTomato on August 09, 2023

This makes2 cups of dressing - way too much for me and my four weekday lunches! I reduced everything in half and the cut the oil way back to four tablespoons. Unsurprisingly it was a little acidic but when mixed into the hippie bowl it's good enough.

    • anothersarah on April 06, 2025

Did not care for this, way too acidic. I halved the recipe so maybe that threw the measurements off but I normally go for a miso vinaigrette and had to add extra oil to take out some of the bite.

  • Caesar [dressing]

    • sydlikestocook on April 09, 2024

I miss the tang from anchovies, but very good otherwise! easy to whip up and scale up/down.

    • LindaMM1 on January 31, 2026

Great , easy and not too heavy Caesar dressing. Added 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce. Reduced olive oil by almost half.

  • Sweet sesame [dressing]

    • Thegirlwho on December 05, 2022

Used avocado oil instead of sunflower. For a kick, I added 1 teaspoon of Korean chili powder.

    • kkmatti on December 03, 2024

Good! Make half next time (2 cups of dressing is a LOT). Substituted simple syrup for agave.

  • Champagne vinaigrette

    • tricia_0t3spw on April 11, 2026

Very good dressing. I have made this for the deluxe Waldorf salad in this book but have used it on several salads since.

  • Sun-dried tomato [dressing]

    • Yildiz100 on May 09, 2024

I like to this more than I expected to. I think I might enjoy adding garlic as well. I Think it's also possible that this would be better with less water and will try that next time. Didn't measure the salt.

  • Classic balsamic [dressing]

    • tricia_0t3spw on April 11, 2026

This is not the best balsamic dressing. I have made it a couple of times. I don’t blend it because it becomes too thick.

  • Creamy Greek [dressing]

    • tricia_0t3spw on June 03, 2026

Pretty heavy on the garlic, but light for a creamy dressing.

  • Curried yogurt [dressing]

  • Cilantro lime ginger [dressing]

    • Frogcake on December 10, 2022

An Excellent, unique dressing. A pleasant combination of flavours. Often I find the taste of fresh cilantro strong and off- putting. This is delicious on green salad, potato salad, chicken and fish!

  • Hippie bowl

    • VineTomato on August 09, 2023

You get healthy meals that taste great and then you get healthy meals that taste ... healthy. This falls into the latter category. It's not bad, but not delicious. I went even more hippie and added mixed sprouts and kraut!

  • Veggie power bowl

    • katiesue28 on February 14, 2024

This was so good and flavorful. Very filling. I only made the Green Goddess dressing vs. mixing it with the Tamari dressing, and was very happy with the result.

  • Ramen chicken peanut bowl

    • Jviney on March 22, 2022

This is absolutely delicious, I would eat it for lunch every day if I could. With the chicken roasted and the salad dressing made, it comes together in ten minutes or so and the payoff is great. Loved it.

  • Mandy's chocolate chip cookies

    • Jviney on May 18, 2022

These are pretty much perfect - since the butter is melted, you don’t have to bring it to room temperature. I used Jacobsen flaky sea salt because I didn’t have Maldon on hand, and it was delicious. Great recipe.

    • cookingbychapter on May 28, 2026

Such a good cookie! I used kosher salt and 50% semisweet chips & 50% dark. The dough is very soft, I scooped into 60g portions and chilled for about 5 hours before baking. Delish!

  • Salted pecan shortbread squares

    • Jviney on May 19, 2022

SUPER buttery. I questioned the shortbread base directions but it worked out perfectly. I’ll make this one again, just a nice pecan bar.

  • Paleo banana bread

    • Jviney on February 08, 2023

I didn’t feel strongly about this, really. A few things I’d do next time: make a parchment paper sling to remove the bread, as it separated when I inverted the pan to remove it. It is not a sweet loaf (expected, as it’s paleo) so the chocolate chips go a long way to making it a treat. It’s a heavy loaf, but when you’re on an elimination diet of some sort and you find a recipe that allows you to have a baked good, there’s no need to knock it!

  • Joodles's apple crisp

    • Jviney on November 20, 2024

This is a nice solid and pretty quick apple crisp, I made it in a panic when a different dessert failed. Small group all went quiet while they ate it.

  • Chocolate bombz

    • Jviney on June 07, 2022

These chocolate cakes paired with the suggested caramel sauce were so good. Next time I would pull them from the oven at 20 minutes rather than the suggested 23 - they seemed dry to me but the caramel sauce covered it pretty well. I’ll try them again.

  • Mini Key lime pies

    • tricia_0t3spw on April 01, 2026

Made these for the first time. Taste great. I had difficulty getting them out of the muffin pan so they looked pretty rough.
