  • Cream of tomato soup with fried cheese sandwiches

    • dawnelizabethtaylor on November 08, 2014

gorgeous and speedy soup - really comforting. cheese sandwiches too greasy - therefore better to find an alternative accompaniment.

    • joneshayley on May 03, 2015

Lovely fast soup. My children love this, though I've long since stopped adding cream, or the cheese tastiest. The soup and a crusty roll is all that is needed

  • Great sausage casserole

    • anna_66imxn on May 24, 2026

      Really good sausage casserole recipe.

  • Minced beef pinwheels

    • joneshayley on September 25, 2019

      Great snack and packed lunch

  • Braised steaks with gravy

    • TLouise on April 25, 2023

I have made this many times. The meat is fork tender and the gravy is delicious. The book suggests serving with chips but I prefer mashed potatoes and vegetables.

  • Cholent

    • TLouise on January 24, 2021

Not sure what I think about this recipe. It is very simple, very filling and very plain. My husband and kids liked it but I just wanted more flavour. If I made it again I would try a different recipe containing more flavours.

  • Carrot salad

  • Beef & honey stew

    • TLouise on December 29, 2020

A great stew with a distinctive sweetness. Made as per instructions, I would definitely make again.

  • Diggers

    • joneshayley on March 04, 2020

Brilliant recipe - easy to adjust to suit your taste and always delicious.

Grateful for joneshaley bringing this recipe to our attention. I looked at the recipe online, saw that I had everything, so quickly made it and brought it to a meeting I had that day. It IS rich, with all that butter, but a cup of tea helps it go down easily!

Diggers = Anzac biscuits. These were delicious and enjoyed by everyone! Very easy to make so good for kids to help with. Used Doves Farm gf flour and dairy free margarine and it still worked well. Needed at least 5 minutes longer than stated in oven. A little crumbly so may try adjusting slightly next time. I'm sure we will make this again! DH suggested adding chocolate or cherries. Mary Berry's version for biscuits not traybake has more butter, less flour (self-raising), much less sugar, slightly less coconut. I might try one day out of curiosity. https://www.theusualsaucepans.com/baking/anzac-biscuits/

  • Chicken & chorizo paella

    • zoe_bjtylb on May 25, 2026

I’m going to try boneless next time- great flavour and easy to cook

  • Duck à l'orange

    • TLouise on January 12, 2021

Very nice and very easy to make. I added a little sugar to the sauce as it was quite sour, once I did that it was perfect, I will definitely make this again. Served with sautéed potatoes and savoy cabbage.

  • Mum's everyday fish pie with cheesy mash

    • dawnelizabethtaylor on January 23, 2015

Lovely, easy recipe - and especially 'saucy'! But - needs the addition of extra veg ie tiny broccoli florets added with the peas into the sauce, plus maybe asparagus or whatever there is in the pantry...
