Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Chicken, lemon and orzo soup

    • Caja on July 05, 2024

Really liked this, but the chicken went a bit dry so would cut it bigger next time, or maybe use thighs

  • Butternut squash and sage pasta

    • Trackypup on January 08, 2025

Loved this. Used chicken stock and instead of the sausage as an option I added some diced bacon at the end with the cheese. Definite keeper.

  • Quick pasta Bolognese

    • TLouise on April 08, 2021

Taste was okay nothing special. Best served straight away. Recipe makes a lot I would half if I made it again.

  • Spaghetti alle greens

    • et12 on March 06, 2024

Was looking for a quick, comforting pasta dish that wasn’t tomato sauce based and this was a very good choice. The only issue I had was that it was difficult not to get the spinach and the courgette to clump together.

  • Showstopper quiche

    • et12 on July 01, 2020

Delicious but the listed measures created too much filling for the quiche.

  • Mackerel and potato tray bake

    • Leo on March 03, 2022

This is a versatile and tasty recipe. Used Maris Piper potatoes cut small and added some green beans instead of beetroot. Will make it as written next time.

  • Salmon tray bake

    • Beth891 on December 05, 2023

No broccoli or coriander so added some carrots instead and reduced the soy a little as cooking for a child, also gave it 5 mins less cooking once the beans were added but otherwise pretty much as per recipe. It was tasty and would make again.

  • Summer chicken bake

    • Lynnclair on March 01, 2020

Really enjoyed the mix of chicken, vegetables, spices and chickpeas. Will make this again.

  • Minty lamb steaks

    • Beth891 on July 13, 2024

Really tasty. I made a couple of changes - I had small courgettes so I used 3, I'm not a fan of broad beans and so subbed peas (approx 3 handfuls of frozen peas stirred through just before putting the lamb on top to cook) and no dill so added chopped fresh mint at the end. I used fresh lemon so added a little zest to the lamb marinade. I used my large flatter le creuset pot which worked great as just popped the lid on rather than foil for the first part of the cooking time. It was really tasty, low maintenance and everything was perfectly cooked- I would definitely make again!

  • Meatball and pasta tray bake

    • et12 on April 22, 2024

I followed the recipe exactly and it seems to have come out as described but I thought the end result was bland. Not bad, just meh. I think it asks for too much milk, ended with a watery sauce as a result.

  • Cod with chorizo and white beans

    • EskieF on April 24, 2021

I followed the recipe exactly - the white cabbage I used had imparted a bitter taste to the sauce/stew when I tasted it halfway through cooking, so I added 3/4 tsp of brown sugar and a bay leaf (cut in two) to counteract the bitterness. That worked, but next time I will use the much milder Hispi (pointed) cabbage for this recipe.

  • Sausage and lentil casserole

    • et12 on July 12, 2023

This was good but I had a difficult time getting the seasoning right at the end and used a combination of balsamic vinegar and apple cider vinegar to things right. Was a nice hearty dinner in the end.

  • Romanian sausage bake

    • et12 on December 16, 2023

This was a nice, comforting dish. My polenta clumped a lot but this didn’t really impact the texture in the end.

  • French lamb casserole

    • Leo on September 07, 2020

I used this recipe as a template as I didn't have all of the ingredients namely flageolet beans or turnip but had small amounts of the other veg to use. I ignored the turnip (never a favourite) and replaced the flageolet beans with cannellini beans and it was delicious. Will definitely make it again as it was a low maintenance dish for a weeknight. I might try using white vermouth if I had no white wine to use up.

    • Leo on April 24, 2022

Made this again. As I couldn't find lamb neck fillet I bought lamb rump steaks. Made the decision to cook the vegetables as a stew and cooked the lamb as steaks separately. Worked pretty well - right decision for the lamb...not as tasty overall of course.

  • Vegetable crumble

    • et12 on November 06, 2022

Really loved this one. An indulgent way to eat a good lot of vegetables. Ideal for a cozy night in. I used pumpkin instead of butternut squash and added some thyme to the crumble. I’d thicken the liquid in the filling next time instead of reducing it in order to keep a firm texture to the veg.

  • Spinach, ricotta and Parma ham lasagne

    • et12 on November 04, 2022

This was good but difficult to season and didn’t really need the Parma ham. If I do it again, I would take care to better season the spinach-ricotta mix as well as the tomato sauce. Looks really good though.

  • Chicken pie with a corn crust

    • et12 on November 03, 2022

Very tasty and fairly quick to prepare weeknight meal. A rich meal (cheese and butter) but really enjoyed the sweet corn crust.

  • Pot-roast chicken

    • Beth891 on July 15, 2024

This is absolutely delicious! I made some changes to the veg, missing out the mushrooms and celery (served with extra peas instead) and just added tarragon (no parsley) to the gravy. Otherwise made as recipe but my chicken was quite big (1.7kg) so it needed an extra 10 mins ( I turned the oven up to 190 for last 10). Result was delicious though, soft moist chicken, nicely cooked veg and really good gravy! I'd definitely make again.

  • Anzac flapjacks

    • Beth891 on September 15, 2024

Pretty sweet but really nice! The coconut is a really nice addition and I added some pumpkin seeds for extra health too. If I made again I'd many reduce the sugar a little as with the dates it is very sugary but they do taste great. I gave them just over 25 minutes as I was looking for a chewy flapjack but I could maybe have given them an extra min or 2 for some more colour.

  • Belting banana bread

    • TLouise on March 27, 2023

Great flavour, and so simple, I will definitely make again.
