Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Burrata, broccoli, lentils

    • Jane on August 27, 2019

A pleasant vegetarian supper. Nothing spectacular but quick and easy to prep and felt healthy without being too virtuous.

  • Halloumi, tomatoes

    • Apollonia on August 08, 2021

Simple, delicious. I usually like my halloumi crispy, but the softer, meltier effect here was lovely. We ended up with a lot of herby, tomato-y broth, so I served (as I do most things) over greens. It would only have been improved with a slice of thick sourdough.

    • anniecc on May 22, 2023

This was really tasty. I served it with freekeh as a vegetarian dinner. If I made it again I might be tempted to open up the halloumi parcel for the last few minutes of cooking to let it take on some colour.

  • Gnocchi, tomato, radishes

    • lilham on May 31, 2020

Pan frying the gnocchi makes them crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Absolutely delicious. Everyone commented how much nicer they are compared to boiled gnocchi. I added salt when it’s not asked for in the recipe but otherwise followed it closely. I served it with the aubergine moussaka from Nigella Lawson’s Eat, which is a chickpea and aubergine stew with crumbled feta.

    • Tealismyname on June 12, 2022

Always love this simple dish! Does not reheat well-- but if you need to...separate the gnochi and fry them again to heat up.

  • Marrow, tomato, couscous

    • lilham on July 11, 2020

I followed the recipe loosely, using only one courgette, doubling the couscous and omitting the herbs. A lovely couscous to serve on the side. I would never have thought of using cooked tomatoes and courgette with couscous. I normally add things like raw tomatoes, salad leaves, nuts and dried fruit only.

  • Baked peppers, beans, herb sauce

    • saladdays on September 06, 2020

A very tasty light meal. I microwaved the peppers enough to soften them before putting them in the oven, otherwise it seems a long cooking time for just 2 peppers. The sauce is very quick to make in a food processor and there was enough left to use as a salad dressing for another time.

    • FJT on July 21, 2021

Nice supper dish. Due to the heat I cooked the peppers early in the morning so that I only had the oven on for a short time in the evening. The herb sauce really makes this dish.

  • Fennel, onions, eggs

    • FJT on July 19, 2021

Oh dear, where to start with this one? My husband summed it up as "it's a plate of vegetables with egg" and that's about it. The flavour of the mustard seeds didn't really come through. It was difficult to cook the wedges of fennel through even though I cut them down from the quarters stated in the recipe (so they were a bit too crunchy) ... and then it was tricky to fit everything in my largest frying pan. It wasn't really terrible, but it isn't a plate of food I would serve again.

  • Sweet potatoes, tomatoes

    • FJT on August 18, 2021

This was just ok. It was very difficult to form the mash into patties and I had to add way more flour than suggested. My patties barely held together. The tomato sauce was fine, but Marcella's tomato and onion sauce would have been better. Probably wouldn't repeat.

  • Aubergine, puff pastry

    • FJT on May 27, 2021

This was very good indeed. I also added feta cheese and highly recommend it and I upped the amount of pine nuts for the top too. My husband, whose usual comment about vegetarian dishes is that they would be improved by the addition of bacon, said he loved it and I could make it again any time!

    • fazzle on March 27, 2020

Added some salty feta as well and it was delicious!

  • Aubergine, honey, sheep's cheese

    • joneshayley on July 24, 2019

Salty cheese, sweet honey, melting aubergine and thyme. Delicious and full of the feel of summer. A light supper for heady heated evenings, a lunch to eat outdoors in the shade of a tree, a summer breeze flowing by. Yum

    • etcjm on November 24, 2019

Easy, tasty, definitely one to do again. i stupidly used the pan which was correct size wise but I just couldn't get enough heat into it, meaning it took longer to cook than expected. Very annoying since every other component of the meal was ready and people were waiting at the table! Out of everything served this is what got most comments.

    • Ganga108 on July 31, 2021

Absolutely delicious. Slices of eggplant, 1cm, salted lightly, coated in seasoned flour, shallow fried. I served with salted ricotta and drizzled with the honey. Small serves - a great lunch perhaps, or nibbles before dinner, or an afternoon snack.

  • Courgette, za'atar, herb yoghurt

    • joneshayley on March 23, 2020

Easy and delicious , though needs plenty of seasoning and the chilli suggestion is good

    • Tealismyname on December 11, 2022

I like this recipe although we add an onion grated and a pinch of baking powder.

    • elana.lepkowski on July 21, 2023

Added about a squeeze of lemon to the herbed yogurt to loosen it a bit more and add a little acid to dish.

  • Orzo, peppers

  • Spring cabbage, spring onions, potatoes

    • Tealismyname on June 20, 2022

Had a fried egg on top. Our potatos had gone off and so I ended up using frozen mash and some flour to bulk out. The herbs really made the dish.

  • Miso, mushrooms, pak choi

    • Tealismyname on July 03, 2023

Pretty yummy but needs some tofu to supplement.

  • Broad beans, couscous, pine kernels

    • Tealismyname on June 12, 2022

Have cooked this twice-- prefer it when I use giant couscous that has been cooked in stock. I found it a really simple and nice weeknight dinner if using frozen broadbeans.

    • mjes on August 15, 2021

As is typical of Greenfeast, the recipes are straight forward with uncommon (or at least unhackneyed) ingredients. Good enough to be considered any time I have the ingredients; not so brilliant I'd shop especially for it.

  • Bucatini, courgettes, spinach

    • Tealismyname on June 12, 2022

Replace with single cream unless you want the full Nigel experience.

    • Tealismyname on February 11, 2023

defo benefits from some lemon zest

  • Green falafel, watermelon, yoghurt

    • lou_weez on February 14, 2022

A light and delicious meal. I prepared the falafel the day before, so all I had to do when I got home from work was pop them in the oven for 20 minutes and make the salad. I will be making these again.

  • Halloumi, mint, aubergine

    • JJ2018 on February 22, 2020

I was really excited about this but for me it just was lacking something. The breaded halloumi was nice, the aubergine was garlicky I just think it was missing freshness and more of a kick. Maybe more lemon and some chilli if there’s a next time ... probably not as it stands

  • Mustard guacamole, mozzarella, bagel

    • JJ2018 on February 22, 2020

A different take with the avocado. I enjoyed this and it was quick and easy but i doubt it is special enough to have frequently

  • Broad beans, spring greens, lasagne

    • Ganga108 on January 11, 2022

Disappointing. A lot of effort and not a good dish. Ok, but disappointing. Could be improved with slices of almost cooked potato.

  • Tomatoes, basil, breadcrumbs

    • Ganga108 on January 11, 2022

      A lovely, Summery, herby dish.

    • anniecc on August 06, 2023

This was a spectacular dish, especially given the ease of preparation and small number of ingredients. Used tomatoes and basil fresh from the garden. I had a stray piece of halloumi cheese so I sliced that up and added it at the same time as the breadcrumb mix - an excellent addition. My tomatoes were very juicy and I was sceptical that the breadcrumbs would go soggy, but they were lovely and crisp with the stated cooking time.

  • Strawberries, oats, yoghurt

    • Ganga108 on January 10, 2022

Bircher Muesli, apple, orange juice and berries with yoghurt. Really nice, the amount I made was enough for 3 days of large bowls. I added passionfruit too.

  • Chickpea, pea, sprouted seeds

    • Ganga108 on July 31, 2021

Made a riff on this dish. Used Black Beans instead of chickpeas, broad beans instead of peas (from the freezeer), tiny mung sprouts and pea sprouts. Loved the creamy dressing. Nice. Not spectacular like Ottolenghi, but that is not what Nigel Slater goes for. Good, easy, weekday home cooking. Typical Nige! ??

  • Eggs, potatoes

    • chefengineer on March 15, 2023

Mar 2023 - Delicious! Similar to a shakshuka. Made changes for convenience: Chunk up the potatoes and steam or boil. Meanwhile, in a large pot, briefly saute a coarsely diced red pepper (an addition to the recipe); add salt. Add the scallions and cherry toms and briefly saute further. Add the tomato puree. Adjust salt. Hold on simmer until potatoes are done, then add the potatoes to the pot. Mash them slightly. Turn up the heat to medium and add 4 eggs (not just 2). Cover and cook, more like 6 minutes. Sooooo good!! Oh - couldn't find "guindilla" peppers but found pickled "mild waxy" peppers which are clearly similar; maybe even identical. Used 12 of them cut into large chunks. Could have used twice that many.

  • Freekeh, avocado, chives

    • samfrances on July 02, 2023

Heartily recommend. A simple and tasty weeknight meal. The ras el hanout makes the flavour, so don't cook it without.

  • New potatoes, garlic, peppers

    • anniecc on August 06, 2022

The instructions for this were a bit confusing. It says to slice the potatoes thinly and if possible to cook them in a single layer. You would need an absolutely enormous pan to make this possible. In the picture it appears the potatoes are halved rather than finely sliced, which would make a lot more sense. My dish tasted good but didn’t look especially attractive because the potatoes disintegrated. I added crumbled feta cheese which was a great addition, if I made it again I might try chilli flakes.

  • Freekeh, peaches, feta

    • anniecc on August 06, 2022

This was terrific, served it for lunch for two. Would definitely make again.
