    • gptoth on May 02, 2021

I adjusted this recipe ever so slightly and it still turned out fantastic. I substituted beef broth for the water and used 90/10 ground beef. Since there was very little liquid after browning the ground beef, there was no need to drain the meat. I also followed the note in the Comments section and added a small amount of cornstarch to thicken the mixture a bit. One person suggested using half the amount of ketchup and the other half BBQ sauce. Another person suggested using tomato sauce instead of ketchup, which would cut down on the "sweet taste." However, it might be necessary to reduce the amount of water. You can even add some shredded cheese to thicken the mixture, or simply to add a nice cheese flavor. Another suggestion was to use sautéed chopped onions in lieu of the onion powder.

These were…fine. Tasted like manwich. Could have used some peppers and onions.

  • Baked ham with orange glaze

    • anya_sf on April 05, 2021

I didn't have apple cider, so just used water plus OJ. I'm not sure the juice actually flavored the ham at all - all water would probably work just as well - but the method yielded juicy meat. My ham was larger, so I baked it 1.5 hrs covered and 1.25 hrs uncovered. I put all the glaze on the ham since it was bigger, but unfortunately most of it slid off, so I should have reserved some. The glaze that stuck to the ham tasted very good.

  • Cajun corned beef hash

    • melissa_wsxg8v on April 26, 2026

My family loved this dish! The only thing I did differently was cook the hash browns quite a bit longer on each side. I kept pressing them down with a spatula and flipping them back and forth until they got as crispy as we like—my family really loves crispy hash browns. Toward the end, I also added a little more seasoned salt, Cajun seasoning, and pepper, tasting as I went to get the right flavoring that I preferred.

  • Creamy hash brown casserole

    • Sara on November 03, 2012

Delicious--real comfort food on a cold night! I substituted 8 ounces shredded sharp Cheddar for the Velveeta.

  • Autumn pear bread

    • swegener on January 30, 2015

This was ok. I love pears in baked goods, but I had issues with this recipe. It overflowed the pans and was a bit bland.

This is insanely good results to effort ratio. I made with two rotisserie chicken breasts instead of raw. We demolished this. Would totally make again.

    • jmetheny1 on April 24, 2026

SO good. Very rich. Added handful of sweet corn and a few cloves of fresh garlic. Could try garnishing with cilantro, crispy tortilla strips, adding a couple of chopped potatoes. Not sure it needed the heavy whipping cream.

  • Walnut mincemeat pie

    • Emblyadell on May 18, 2026

This did take longer than stated to cook.

  • Chocolate mint cream pie

  • Lemon angel food supreme

    • laura_l1b311 on February 15, 2026

I've made this one a few times now. It comes together easily and the cake is very nice. I find the sauce to be a bit too sweet and not quite complimentary to the lemon in the cake, which is the reason for one start being knocked off. Today I substituted lemon extract for almond and made a simple almond glaze to drizzle over. It came out amazing!

  • Double orange cookies

    • ashallen on May 04, 2021

I thought these were very much just OK. They're puffy and cake-y which is probably my least favorite cookie style. The orange flavor wasn't super-strong and they also had a flavor which I refer to as "underbaked" (even though they were fully cooked). I experimented with baking some of the cookies longer so they'd brown more and those were better but still not great. I did not make the frosting (trying to avoid sugar overload!) but perhaps I would have liked them better with it since it would have added some additional moisture and flavors. Dough was pretty sticky - chilling made it easier to handle.

  • Really good snack mix

    • Soulkitchenjen on December 29, 2022

I don’t usually comment when I didn’t actually follow the recipe. But the flavor base and cooking directions are perfect. I doubled the mix. I used Chex, pretzels, cheerios, cheez it’s and cashews. Ended up being more cups than called for, so I tripled the seasoning. I can’t stop eating it.
