Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Banana-blueberry oat cake

    • lorigenes on March 30, 2024

Excellent and moist. Can be made in 9 x 13 pan.

  • Chocolate cream cheese frosting

    • lorigenes on June 05, 2025

Perfect recipe, with just the right amount of sweet.

  • Cream cheese pound cake

    • slowfoodie on June 14, 2025

I used 2 cups pastry flour and 1 cup AP flour. Used 1/2 tsp. lemon extract instead of almond extract. Makes a rich and delicious pound cake which I used as a base for strawberries with whipped cream. Skipped the frosting.

  • Blueberry sour cream coffee cake

    • lorigenes on September 10, 2023

      Very good. Quick and easy.

  • Orange coffee cake

    • lorigenes on January 15, 2026

      Different and wonderful!

  • Lemon poppy seed coffee cake

    • JaniceKj on September 17, 2022

Excellent recipe! I didn't have the 9" springform pan, so I used the Nordic Anniversary bundt pan, baked at 325 for 1 hr. It was perfect! I prefer it without the glaze for less sugar.

  • Rhubarb & ginger upside-down cake

    • slowfoodie on June 14, 2025

I didn't care for this that much. My husband liked it, but not enough for me to make it again. This could have been my fault though, as I forgot to add an ingredient, so had to deconstruct it, add the missing ingredient and put it back together. This couldn't have helped it. Nevertheless, I won't be making it again.

  • Russian apple cake (Sharlotka)

    • lkgrover on August 04, 2021

Excellent, moist apple cake with the perfect level of spice.

  • Double-chocolate zucchini muffins

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

Cross-posted: These were really tender and delicious. You could not taste or feel the zucchini in them.

  • White chocolate-peppermint scones

    • Shewi128 on January 09, 2023

This was a decent scone recipe. It turned out ok, the texture was tender, and the flavor was good. However, the glaze was very thin and yellow and didn't look like the picture at all. It also made too much even though I double dipped the scones. Also, the shape changed as they cooked, which doesn't happen often for my scones, even when frozen overnight. Don't think I'll repeat this recipe as it wasn't a favorite.

  • Herbed sour cream pull-apart loaf

    • Shewi128 on May 18, 2022

The bread was very tender and easy to work with. Maybe this was a flavor preference, but the raw garlic in the herb-butter was not my favorite. I would make this again, but without garlic. It was too dominant of a flavor.

  • Tahini brioche

    • Shewi128 on May 19, 2022

the crumb was incredibly tender, but I just found this to be a blah bread. The tahini gives it a light flavor. I wouldn't make this again.

  • Do-it-all dough

    • slowfoodie on June 14, 2025

Nice dough, but way too much salt. Cut the salt from 1 T down to about 2 tsp. - or possibly lower. Need to experiment with it. Good for so many things.

  • Summer herb dinner rolls

    • Shewi128 on May 06, 2022

I made these rolls a few times, and they turned out great both times. Very tender. I left out the garlic.

  • Spiced honey-oat pie

    • Shewi128 on May 19, 2022

This was an interesting nut-free version of a pecan pie. Very similar consistency. The flavor was good. You may want to ensure you don't over-bake the crust.

  • Appeltaart

    • lkgrover on November 25, 2022

Excellent apple pie; the crust is more substantial & filling than most traditional apple pies. The method of roasting the apples helps caramelize them. I made this for a friends' Thanksgiving dinner, where it received many compliments.

  • Pear and cranberry kuchen

    • Shewi128 on May 19, 2022

The flavor and texture were good, but the crust was too hard and crumbly.

  • Spiced lemon crinkle sandwich cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

Very good and unique cookie with the spices and lemon.

  • Vanilla-strawberry sandwich cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

Delicious combo of vanilla and strawberry. Halved the filling recipe, and still had some left over.

  • Molasses-swirled sugar cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

This was ok. The swirl was nice, but the molasses flavor was kind of weak.

  • Cream cheese-stuffed vanilla-peppermint cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 19, 2022

These were nearly impossible to form with the cream cheese in the middle. I would recommend maybe freezing the little scoops of cream cheese before forming the cookie around them. However. the flavor and texture was really good!

  • Christmas sugar cookies

    • Shewi128 on December 28, 2022

These turned out really well. They surprisingly held their shape without any refrigeration. I recommend the lower end of cooking range as they ended up being slightly too crispy. However, the texture and flavor were both nice.

  • Chocolate cinnamon crinkle cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

Nice and chewy cookies. The combo of spices with chocolate was quite good.

    • sharon_5rnu6f on March 21, 2026

Easy recipe to follow. Makes the best ice cream sandwich cookies.

  • Five-spice cranberry jam thumbprint cookies

    • Shewi128 on December 19, 2022

I don't give 5 stars to many recipes, but this cookie was phenomenal. The texture of the cookie was perfect: it was light, not too chewy or too tender, and the almond flavor really complemented the cranberry jam well. I loved the surprising flavor of the five-spice mixture in the cranberry jam. It may not have been the favorite of the cookie party or with kids, but I loved it.

  • Peppermint mocha red velvet marble cookies

    • Shewi128 on May 20, 2022

These were absolutely beautiful and very festive. However, the mocha flavor was quite strong.

  • Apple shortcake

    • Shewi128 on May 19, 2022

This was good, but a little too heavy on the almond extract. The dough was a little tricky to get it rolled out properly as it ripped in a few places.

  • Vanilla pumpkin spice bars

    • senzler on September 13, 2025

This was a great pumpkin bar. I did not have pumpkin spice vanilla so I just used regular vanilla in the bars and regular vanilla plus small amts of bar’s spices in the frosting. Frosting recipe overly generous. I had over 1 cup left over.

  • Cheesecake bars with chocolate and caramel

    • Shewi128 on December 14, 2022

This turned out really well. The chocolate and caramel were really balanced. It does make a large amount--consider yourself warned.

  • Carrot cake cheesecake bars

    • lorigenes on May 07, 2024

These were excellent. Another family favorite.

  • Peppermint bark cookie bars

    • Shewi128 on December 14, 2022

I love all things peppermint bark, so this recipe called out to me. The bars turned out beautifully. The white chocolate swirl looked beautiful even without adding white food coloring. However, they were a little less than perfect. I only cooked the bars at the low end of the range (30 minutes), and they ended up a little dry and overcooked. Also, for some of the bars, the chocolate layer wouldn't quite meld with the peppermint layer, so it would peel off the cookie and peppermint base. I would maybe make these again, but I would incorporate maybe a small amount of semisweet chocolate in it to make it a little less bitter.

  • Chocolate-glazed baked cake doughnuts

    • Shewi128 on January 16, 2023

This was exactly what I wanted from a baked doughnut. It was a nice cakey texture without being fried. However, some notes about this recipe: 1) The recipe states 6 doughnuts, but their muffin pan must've been deeper than my Wilton pan. We doubled that recipe, and the pans were way overfilled. It probably originally makes 12 smaller doughnuts. 2) Too much nutmeg--cut back by 1/2 or more. It dominated the flavor. I will definitely make this again!

  • Gingerbread Dutch baby pancake

    • Shewi128 on May 04, 2022

Cross-posted: Dry baby pancake. I don't know if it was overcooked or what. It was not worth the effort. I would not make again.
