Notes about this book

  • goodfruit on April 18, 2024

I have made much better use of my Breville Smart Oven since buying this cookbook. I keep making Key Lime Pie and NY Crumb Cake over and over. I loved the information in the front of the book about buying certain sized pans, racks and baking dishes, once I had those things, I use the Smart Oven rather than turn on my whole Kitchen Aid 6 cubit feet oven just to bake one dish. If there are just one or two of you at home, get the Breville Smart Oven and get this cookbook!

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Spicy oven-fried chicken sandwich

    • goodfruit on May 21, 2026

takes a bit of time and layout, important to get your stuff needed out ahead of time, but makes a very good and crispy chix sammie

  • Roasted pork tenderloin with green beans and potatoes

    • jay.moe on May 01, 2025

I made extra vegetables, because 16 ounces of pork seemed like a lot for two servings. Turning the pork over half way through cooking helped it to brown nicely on both sides. Everything cooked in the amount of time indicated in the recipe and it made a quick, mostly hands-off meal. The recipe made four servings due to the extra vegetables.

  • Crispy breaded pork chops

    • goodfruit on April 05, 2021

      very good! a perfect chop.

  • Baked cod with cherry tomatoes and chickpeas

    • quiltergirl1960 on May 14, 2023

Very good and had all the ingredients in our pantry. Cod is not very flavorful and this treatment made it great! Easy, fast - great week night dinner.

  • Baked shrimp with couscous, leeks and tarragon-orange vinaigrette

    • cadfael on September 17, 2023

This is a really good recipe. I like to toast the couscous first but otherwise did as written.BLT

  • Baked spaghetti and meatballs

    • jay.moe on April 29, 2025

I used leftover meatballs that I had in the freezer which were thawed in the microwave and added to the spaghetti half way through the first bake. The sauce was a good consistency without additional water after the 10 minute cool down. I think I prefer the texture of boiled spaghetti instead of spaghetti baked in the sauce. Although this recipe was mostly hands-off, I'm not sure I will make it again.

  • Baked macaroni and cheese

    • jay.moe on April 29, 2025

This is a quick recipe to put together with very little hands on time since the dry pasta cooks in the oven. I stirred the macaroni four times while it baked for 30 minutes. The pasta was completely cooked through after only 30 minutes, so I shortened the second bake, which was to melt the cheese, to only 7 minutes. The mac and cheese was not as loose as I expected when I took it out of the oven, and had to add a half cup of milk make it a creamy consistency. The panko was golden brown after only one minute in the microwave and was a nice addition to the macaroni and cheese. It made three servings rather than two. Everyone liked this recipe.

  • Ham, egg, and cheese sandwiches

    • goodfruit on April 05, 2021

these are great and so versatile!

  • Breakfast pizza

    • sally_dmx1d0 on February 22, 2026

Fun snow day project. Great combination of flavors. A great template for making any pizza in the toaster oven.

  • Classic pizza dough

    • sally_dmx1d0 on February 22, 2026

Fantastic small batch pizza dough recipe. I made it in my mini food processor believe it or not.

  • Lemon-blueberry muffins

    • goodfruit on April 05, 2021

too much batter for a six cup muffin pan

  • Easy baked potato

    • goodfruit on April 05, 2021

easy, way better than turning on the whole oven

  • Chewy brownies

    • jay.moe on April 25, 2025

The brownies are chocolatey and fudgy with a glossy, crackly top, which is the kind of brownies I prefer. I found the ingredient list somewhat confusing as it called for 3/4 cup (3-3/4 ounces) plus 2 tablespoons AP flour. I thought it was odd that the weight didn't include all of the flour, which should be 4-3/8 ounces. The cooled brownies were somewhat difficult to remove from the oiled, foil sling. Next time I might try butter rather than oil or even add a piece of parchment paper to the bottom of the foil-lined pan. This recipe is a half-batch of the recipes in many of ATK's other books including The Perfect Cookie and the cookbooks from the TV show. I thought this was a good recipe for a smaller batch of brownies. My family thought there is never a reason to make only a half-batch of brownies!
