Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Seasoned soybean sprouts (Kongnamul muchim)

    • tacoquokka on March 12, 2026

This banchan tastes just like the one you can get at restaurants. A little more inconvenient to make than some other banchan - have to drain the sprouts at least an hour, and you cannot make it in advance or save it for other days - but it tastes good. The imitation crab isn’t necessary to add.

    • janet_x28jp9 on June 01, 2026

Nice balance of flavors. Made it without the imitation crab because I have a kid who hates it. Definitely will keep using this recipe.

  • Seasoned broccoli tofu (Broccoli dubu muchim)

    • ShayLRoss on March 05, 2026

Good, simple side dish to some heartier. It's very similar to Maangchi, although I appreciate the ease of using frozen broccoli instead of fresh for this version.

  • Seasoned acorn jelly (Dotorimuk muchim)

    • eclairea on March 16, 2026

It was earthy and reminiscent of chestnut. First time trying acorn jelly and while it wasn’t for me, I had fun making it and am glad I tried it!

  • Green salad

    • tacoquokka on March 04, 2026

Excellent salad recipe. Made this with butter lettuce and shallots, topped it with baked tofu, chickpeas, tomatoes. The dressing here is easy, versatile, and tastes like it comes from a restaurant.

  • Marinated avocado (Avocado-jang)

    • Hawaii on January 14, 2026

The first time I made this recipe, I thought the dish was too sweet. The second time I made it, I used half of the plum syrup called for and added a lot of lemon juice. The flavors were sour, salty, and a bit sweet. This version is much better for my family and me. People loved not just the avocado, but the marinated onions and tomatoes. I make this dish a couple of hours before serving, letting the onions and tomatoes marinate. I add the avocado about an hour before serving. So so good!

  • Roasted gim with crispy tofu (Guun gimgwa dubu)

    • Bessp on December 08, 2025

I loved this, my husband was so-so on it. The sauce was super easy and delicious, I want to put it on everything. The tofu was straightforward to cook, and roasting the gim was super fun. Next time I might season the rice a bit, but it was still good as is.

    • eclairea on March 26, 2026

Nice light meal for dinner. I personally wanted spice after I tasted it, a sprinkling of gochugaru would have probably satisfied that for me (even though the recipe didn’t call for it).

  • Stir-fried anchovies with gochujang (Myeolchi gochujang bokkeum)

    • Pandan on January 04, 2026

This was so good, I had to keep myself from snacking on it before dinner. This would make a great snack, too! Really great umami flavours. I used small anchovies. Would definitely make again

  • Stir-fried fish cakes (Eomuk bokkeum)

    • ShayLRoss on March 05, 2026

It's a good side dish, although I would be inclined to add a bit of vegetables and make it a main dish with rice. The flavoring is light and works well, and it doesn't taste overly salty.

    • dmdmdmmm on March 05, 2026

These were REALLY good!!! As good as I get them when we go out for korean food! Flavors were spot on and it comes together so fast.

    • eclairea on March 08, 2026

I loooove fish cakes and this recipe didn’t disappoint!

  • Braised baby potatoes (Algamja jorim)

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

its great!! this is less sweet than what i’m used to but its easy to adjust. I wish i doubled the recipe cuz this disappears fast on the table ??

    • eclairea on March 19, 2026

Good, simple side of potatoes! Doubled the recipe since the bag of potatoes was exactly 2x what the recipe called for. I wanted a bit more heat so when I have the leftovers, I’ll add more gochugaru. Had this with some oven-roasted salmon.

    • ShayLRoss on March 22, 2026

These are fantastic, I really enjoyed the creaminess of the potatoes and the flavor profile. I would like to make them a bit spicier next time and lessen the sweetness, but overall, excellent side dish.

  • Spicy braised tofu (Dubu jorim)

    • abrownb1 on April 09, 2025

Nice dubu jorim recipe! This version is definitely more fish sauce forward and sweeter than others I've tried. I think I prefer others but this one was a nice change of pace!

    • eclairea on March 17, 2026

Really enjoyed this! Spicy, sweet, lots of flavour, perfect sauce for tofu to absorb.

  • Steamed eggs (Gyeran jjim)

    • annarose_48vb4n on January 11, 2026

Delicious! Definitely not 4 servings. My husband and I split this for breakfast and it was JUST enough.

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

Recipe says it serves 4 but i think it can easily serve 2 hungry people. i had a problem with the condensation pooling in the middle, where it sank as seen on the pic, so i just slowly tilted my bowl to get rid of it. personally, i’d add a touch more salt to it but its fine as is. The eggs were nice and fluffy and i love the addition of imitation crab.

  • Cut napa cabbage kimchi (Mat kimchi)

    • dmdmdmmm on March 28, 2026

This was pretty good! Even though it requires less knife work than other kimchi recipes I’ve made, this has more ingredients and a bit more effort to put together compared to those.

  • Chicken radish (Chicken mu)

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

these were easy. Literally slice everything and put in a brine. It says to let it pickle for 2 weeks so will report back

  • Sausage and vegetable stir-fry (Sausage yachae bokkeum)

    • tacoquokka on March 07, 2026

Easy to make and delicious. Didn’t blanch the hot dogs, minced the ginger instead of grating, and used the full peppers and onions. Would make this again.

    • ShayLRoss on March 22, 2026

I wasn't super impressed with this, although I think I would like it a bit more with a different type of sausage, like kielbasa. I decided to increase the vegetables in adding mushrooms and spinach, which tasted great. Next time, I would try a different sausage and a few other vegetables along with more peppers.

    • anna_3ig2pw on March 29, 2026

Quick and easy meal that tastes great

    • april_h0z24w on June 02, 2026

Did not boil hotdogs. Followed recipe with inion, red, yellow and brown peppers. Sauce was truffle ketchup, Hawaiian BBQ soy based sauce, ginger, garlic and gochujang. Family loved it!

  • Braised marinated pork neck (Dwaeji moksal yangnyeom gui)

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

this was great, its pretty much bulgogi marinade on thick pork slices. The chive salad was a nice and peppery, and a squeeze of lemon made it perf

    • eclairea on March 22, 2026

Delicious! My husband and I loved it. Found “Korean pork capicola” at the Asian grocery store and it was a good enough sub for boneless pork neck. I have a hot spot on the main burner of my stove and the juice burned pretty quickly, but everything still tasted incredible. Definitely one of the best dishes I’ve tried from this book so far.

  • Seoul-style bulgogi (Seoul-sik bulgogi)

    • hlauer on May 22, 2026

      Makes a lot. Great leftovers.

  • Braised beef ribs (Galbi jjim)

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

I loved it, tastes exactly how I remember it when I eat out. its a biiit sweet so I added a bit of soy sauce in the end to balance it out. I couldnt find beef back ribs so I used short ribs.

  • Honey-garlic chicken

    • dmdmdmmm on March 07, 2026

I wonder what I did wrong bc mine did not look like how it was in the book lol kids liked it, it was good. But it wasnt anything extraordinary.

  • Korean fried chicken

    • dmdmdmmm on March 17, 2026

These were great! We actually had it for two straight nights bc the family just wants more! ?? you dont taste much of the curry powder, just a hint. I finished it with some salt after frying, not suggested in the book but I felt like it improved rhe dish overall :)

  • Soft tofu egg drop soup (Sundubu gyerantang)

    • ShayLRoss on March 05, 2026

This is a good soup to eat when you're not feeling your best, it's warm and has enough protein to keep you content. Because it's a very light dish in flavor, it would be good as a side to something heartier like seasoned meat.

  • Kimchi stew (Kimchi jjigae)

    • dmdmdmmm on April 08, 2026

This was pretty good, i love the dasida powder in the stew! I just like my kimchi jjiggae a bit brothy so i added a bit more water than what was instructed in the recipe.

  • Spam gochujang stew (Spam gochujang jjigae)

    • ShayLRoss on January 30, 2026

I've made this before with spam, and this time, I have it a whirl with ham since that's what I had on hand. I love how customizable this recipe can be, like using zucchini as the squash, or increasing the potatoes. It's a very cozy stew that's great for the winter weather.

    • alice_y01vis on February 12, 2026

This was delicious and relatively quick/simple! I used squash/sweet potato as I didn’t have Korean squash but it was very good still~

  • Beef and radish soup (Sogogi muguk)

    • hailey_tthlx3 on April 08, 2026

This came out so tasty and comforting. I added a splash of sesame oil after serving as well.

  • Beef broth and shredded beef (Sogogi yuksu)

    • hailey_tthlx3 on April 08, 2026

I thought this came out really nice. I think if I had more time I would add beef bones first and then the meat. I will be making Sogogi Muguk from this per the books suggestion.

  • Soybean sprout rice (Kongnamulbap)

    • Hawaii on January 14, 2026

Full disclosure: Two people in my family, including me, love this recipe. Two people said that they would go get burgers when I make this recipe again. I love how fast, easy, and delicious this recipe is. It tastes so good! Don’t skip the Chive Seasoning Sauce. Changes I made for my convenience: (1) I used ground beef; I did not grind my own in the food processor as the recipe directed, and (2) I used anchovy broth instead of seafood broth for the rice. The two people who didn’t like the recipe said that they didn’t like the soybean sprouts in the rice. I thought the sprouts in the rice were delicious and want to make more rice this way. Oh well, can’t please everyone.

  • Egg rice with avocado (Gyeranbap)

    • abrownb1 on April 09, 2025

A nice spin on an old classic! Not sure why the recipe said to mix everything at the end in a bowl and then put it into another bowl since it's a recipe for 1. I mixed mine in the bowl I ate from and it worked great (and one less dish to wash)!

  • Spinach fried rice (Sigeumchi bokkeumbap)

    • eclairea on March 28, 2026

This was fine! Used thinly sliced hot pot beef brisket instead of buying a slab and cutting it myself, and glad I did. There’s sugar in this recipe so it’s sweeter than I usually eat my fried rice and meat, not sure I’d make it again but glad I tried it.

  • Steamed white rice (Baekmibap)

    • eclairea on March 17, 2026

Adding peas was a nice, simple addition.

  • Multigrain rice (Japgokbap)

    • jenmacgregor18 on August 13, 2025

This is so simple and really good. I prefer the texture over brown rice, and it’s a bit more nutritious than plain white rice, which is a plus.

  • Pressure-cooker beans

    • eclairea on March 22, 2026

Used a mix of dried black soybeans and chickpeas as directed!

  • Angel hair mixed cold noodles (Angel hair bibimguksu)

    • ShayLRoss on March 06, 2026

This is a good spicy dish that is easy to whip up and makes good use of cabbage and cucumber. I ended up using straight ramen noodles and it worked really well.

  • Kimchi grilled cheese

    • Potawatomus on March 28, 2026

      This was amazing!

    • ShayLRoss on March 28, 2026

It was great and came together quickly! You can swap the cheese to your preference (I used white cheddar) and if you don't have it, I omitted the Dasida beef powder as it was an item I couldn't find. With everything else included, it made a delicious sandwich.

    • dmdmdmmm on April 19, 2026

Fussiest grilled cheese ive ever made but this was great!! I used mozzarella cuz thats what I had.

  • Vegetable pancakes (Yachaejeon)

    • eclairea on March 15, 2026

My photo is terrible, but the dish was great! Halved the recipe, and it made a good amount. Dasida powder really comes through, and it’s good, but a little goes a long way.

    • tacoquokka on May 10, 2026

These pancakes were great. Skipped the perilla leaves and Fresno chiles, but was still delicious without them. Did include the surimi, but don’t think it’s really necessary. Made 10-11 pancakes.

  • Salt bread (Sogeumppang)

    • d.giginyc on March 01, 2026

I’m giving this 4 stars because I want to try more recipes to see if I can find anything better but honestly, it’s really like a 4.7 ?? it tastes sooooo close to the one I had in SK!! I didn’t have pretzel salt but I know that would have added to the bit of saltiness that Salt Bread is supposed to have so that’s my own fault. Nevertheless, this is sooo good. Had to watch a YouTube tutorial to better understand the shaping methods but everything else made sense. Not super complex but it’s time consuming. Definitely a labor of love but very worth it!!

  • Peanut butter streusel bread (Soboroppang)

    • ShayLRoss on March 10, 2026

While I'm not sure how close my first attempt at this was in tasting like a proper bakery bread, it was enjoyable making this! The steps were more involved and required more precision, which I appreciated. The bread is soft, the streusel is also soft and crunchy, and the taste is not overly sweet.
