Notes about this book

  • ShannonS on April 19, 2024

I love Milk St and own just about everything they have published. I think it’s worth noting that this cookbook includes a huge number of their previously published recipes. As I’m flipping through the chapters, I’m not seeing a lot of new recipes but there are lots of extra tips and tricks. If you are interested in buying one cookbook with easily executable recipes and global flavors, this is all you need.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Greek cabbage salad with carrots and olives

    • stef on May 09, 2024

Son made it for lunch. Very good. I would suggest marinating cabbage and carrots for 24hrs in fridge instead of 30 minutes on counter. It probably would soften the cabbage more. This would make a great potluck dish.

  • Tomato, arugula and bread salad with fresh corn and mozzarella

    • Maefleur on May 12, 2024

Very tasty salad. Using what I had on hand, I subbed cherry tomatoes and smoked gouda cheese.

  • Shaved zucchini and herb salad with Parmesan

    • mamacrumbcake on May 25, 2024

This was very tasty and easy to make, but, really should be made at the very last minute. The zucchini releases water and becomes soft, consequently losing volume. That being said, everyone liked this salad. Scaled up 1.5x for 5 people, yielded a modest serving per person due to shrinkage. (Same recipe in Milk Street Tuesday Nights)

  • Harissa potato salad with mint and lemon

    • BrendaD1962 on January 05, 2025

This potato salad was absolutely delicious. I halved the entire recipe except used the full 1/3 cup of mayo. I also substituted cilantro for the mint. The harissa paste added the perfect amount of heat and the lemon zest and juice brightened it all up. Definitely making again and again.

  • Crisp oven-fried cauliflower with tahini-yogurt sauce

    • sharifah on May 11, 2024

Interesting way to cook cauliflower, we loved it. I lowered the oven temperature and didn’t cook it as long, as I thought it was too hot and too long. Swapped the yogurt to soya yogurt, the sauce was delicious. Will be a repeat for me.

  • Turkish red lentil soup

    • pamondemand on December 18, 2024

Lovely variation on classic lentil soup. The tomato paste and little bit of rice rounds this soup out nicely. Subbed chicken stock for water and dried mint for fresh. Will make again.

  • Basmati rice

    • Soulkitchenjen on July 22, 2024

Perfect rice every time. Use this one.

  • Lombardy-style rice with chicken

    • Jane on May 30, 2024

This is a reasonable weeknight recipe and perfectly pleasant to eat just nothing very special. It uses Arborio rice so is risotto-like though the stock is all added at once. It was still quite creamy with butter and cheese added at the end.

  • Spanish scrambled eggs with shrimp and asparagus

    • sharifah on May 05, 2024

Quick easy dish. Eggs and asparagus are two of my favourite ingredients, what’s not to like?! I served it with chips and salad.

  • Spanish tortilla with roasted red peppers

    • stef on July 22, 2024

This came together quickly. I was worried that the potatoes wouldn't cook but they were nice and soft. Cooked in time indicated. Roasted peppers are a nice addition. Served with roasted mushrooms. Family enjoyed it and will repeat. Make sure you have a good non stick pan.

  • Orecchiette with cherry tomatoes and mozzarella

    • VegasCook37 on July 06, 2024

So simple and easy. Made with cascatelli (sporkfull pasta). Could easily cut in half. The sauce was light and silky. Minimal cutting needed and truly a one pot meal. The fresher the ingredients the better the outcome as very few in this dish.

  • Stir-fried hoisin chicken and bell peppers

    • sharifah on May 24, 2024

Very quick dish once everything is prepped and ready. Really like the sauce. I added some cornflour at the end cos I like the sauce to be a bit thicker. Will definitely repeat.

  • Stir-fried gochujang chicken

    • sharifah on May 08, 2024

Love the sauce, which is quite spicy! Not many ingredients, and very quick to make. Definitely will be a repeat dish!

    • stef on April 18, 2024

This was a nicely spiced dish although if you want it sweeter a little more sugar needed. I used chicken breasts but otherwise followed recipe. Family really liked it and it will be repeated.

  • Stir-fried chili shrimp

    • stef on October 22, 2024

This was a very quick recipe to prepare but not a hit with us. It was too sweet.

  • Pad Thai with shrimp

    • stef on May 21, 2024

We loved this dish. I had no tamarind paste but Google told me I could replace it with vinegar and brown sugar. This dish is quick to put together if everything is mise en place. Spiced just right. I used rice ramen. Would consider adding tofu and broccoli next time.

  • Singapore curry noodles

  • Cod and harissa tagine

    • mpo on February 15, 2025

This was a nice dish, not too complicated. I did add boiled potatoes into the sauce at the end.

  • Pork and chorizo stew with peppers

    • Jane on May 30, 2024

I liked this but didn't love it. It was quick to make so suitable for a weeknight dinner but I'm not sure I will repeat it. The chorizo adds interest with half being pureed in the sauce and half sliced.

  • Broiled shrimp with garlic, lemon and herbs

    • stef on June 14, 2024

Shrimp were done on our BBQ. This recipe was o.k. very parsley intense. I would add more red pepper flakes next time. Do save some of the marinate to spread on the done shrimp.

  • Hot-and-sour shrimp curry

    • stef on April 29, 2024

Family loved it. The spices are just right. Served over rice. Came together quickly. Will repeat.

  • Spatchcocked roasted chicken with gochujang butter

    • stef on May 05, 2024

Made a very nice looking roasted chicken. Slightly spiced and the breast meat was very tender. Will repeat.

  • Oven-perfect strip steak with chimichurri

    • stef on May 14, 2024

Son made this for mother's day. Nutmeg gives the steak a nice grilled look but you only get a slight hint of nutmeg. The steak was medium rare and very tender. I made chimichurri sauce with parsley to go with it. Nice way of making steak without grilling.

  • Indian-spiced pork burgers

    • stef on April 26, 2024

Made this with beef. A tablespoon of cumin was overwhelming for us. Will reduce to 1 1/2 teaspoons. The burger was nice and moist done on the grill.

  • Parmesan and herb turkey burgers

    • Soulkitchenjen on October 10, 2024

Sooo tasty and good. Really easy to make. The sauce adds a lot.

  • Harissa

    • Maefleur on May 10, 2024

Flavorful sauce. Liked that you add cayenne at the end to suit your taste and heat level.
