Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Tapenade

    • lholtzman on May 14, 2025

This was great and super easy. I brought this to a potluck cocktail party. I definitely recommend letting it sit for an hour before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

  • Creamy dip for fruit

    • Jweld on November 29, 2023

Ingredients also include: brown sugar, vanilla, milk

  • Layered Greek dip

    • lholtzman on December 26, 2024

This dip was excellent. I served as an appetizer with Christmas dinner and it felt good to have fresh vegetables with the heavy meal.

  • Curried red beans and rice

    • lholtzman on October 19, 2023

Recipe doesn’t call for salt, but it needs it. Salt to taste. Called “Cuban Red Beans and Rice” in cookbook.

  • Falafels

    • lholtzman on March 06, 2024

These were an excellent surprise. The flavor was quite good. I loved the spicy mayo, but my six year old enjoyed with just regular mayonnaise.

  • Tofu and mushrooms over greens

    • lholtzman on May 11, 2026

This is a nice preparation for tofu. The balsamic reduction is quite good and the mushrooms smell beautiful.

  • Pumpkin bread

    • Apolloprob on November 07, 2016

This was so good! Very moist and full of flavor. Would be great for gifting. Consider adding walnuts or pecans.

  • Hard-cooked eggs

    • lholtzman on May 01, 2024

Cooking eggs for 15 minutes is way too long. I’d say 7 is sufficient using this method.

  • Eggs Benedict

    • jay.moe on October 09, 2022

This is my go-to Eggs Benedict recipe. So good! The hollandaise sauce is perfect with just the right amount of lemon juice.

  • Farmer's casserole

    • rdoose on March 10, 2026

The frozen hash browns created quite a bit of water at the bottom of the pan. I also prefer less of a custardy egg mixture, so if you have similar texture aversions, I'd use less milk than called for.

  • Chocolate angel food cake

    • hirsheys on January 06, 2018

      This was quite good.

  • Baked risotto with sausage and artichokes

    • lholtzman on March 02, 2025

Pretty good. I made vegetarian with veggie sausage. Sauté with olive oil as the veggie sausage doesn’t release any oil.

  • Dilled chicken-orzo casserole

    • rdoose on May 04, 2026

This is a comforting dish that doesn’t feel heavy. I subbed thinly sliced gherkins for the capers. If I make this again I’d double the mustard to punch up the flavor.

  • Lemon bars

  • Strawberry shortcakes

    • jay.moe on January 19, 2022

This dessert is easy and delicious. I didn't think I liked biscuit style strawberry shortcake until I made this version. It is so quick to make, that I make it while grilling outside. By the time dinner is finished, the strawberries have had plenty of time to macerate. Great summer dessert.

  • Greek leeks and shrimp stir-fry

    • lholtzman on January 27, 2026

This was a nice and easy meal. My kids liked it.

  • Kielbasa and orzo

    • cahlurbear on April 04, 2023

Size of the kielbasa seems out of proportion

  • Lamb shanks with beans

    • emedifrye on January 06, 2026

PG 411 I did it in a pressure cooker

  • Chicken pad Thai

    • pitterpat4 on September 16, 2015

Easy to prepare but taste was only okay. Maybe making more sauce would help. There just seemed to be something missing from the sauce. 9/2015

  • Shiitake fettuccine Alfredo

    • lholtzman on September 04, 2025

Very yummy, but very rich. My kids found it a bit too much. I used truffle parm because I had it on hand.

  • Apple pie filling

    • jay.moe on September 12, 2022

This is my go to recipe when making an apple pie. I made the apple crumb version using Jonathan apples and added the zest of half a lemon to the sugar of the pie filling. The apples were slightly tart, but the finished pie was a nice balance between sweet and tart.

  • Blackberry pie filling

    • jay.moe on January 19, 2022

This blackberry pie filling makes a great pie. Well balanced and not overly sweet. My go to recipe for Blackberry Pie.

  • Shrimp lo mein

    • lholtzman on July 21, 2025

We enjoyed this lo mein recipe. You could definitely substitute tofu for shrimp/chicken, or just omit entirely. I could only find Chinese wheat noodles in the grocery store, but it was a fine substitute. Any long noodle would work.

  • Coconut chicken with pineapple-mango salsa

    • D.Barker on October 13, 2021

I don't know that there was anything wrong with this, but it just wasn't that exciting. However, full disclosure we had a perfect storm where our mango wasn't ripe, we had a bit too much chicken on the pan so it never crisped up, and everything was kind of soggy. So definitely could be user error here.

  • Fresh herb vinaigrette

    • lholtzman on October 12, 2025

Good. I would prefer a bit more olive oil to vinegar, but it’s a very easy lower fat option. I did add 1/8 tsp of fine sea salt.

  • Tuna salad

    • lholtzman on July 21, 2025

Good, but needs salt. Definitely a sweeter flavor tuna salad.

  • Creamy broccoli salad

    • jay.moe on January 19, 2022

This recipe is a family favorite. I substitute honey glazed cashews for the sunflower seeds and dried cranberries for the raisins.

  • Sloppy Joes

    • jay.moe on November 25, 2019

Didn't have a green pepper, but it tasted good anyway. Fast and easy to make.

  • Egg salad sandwiches

    • lholtzman on July 10, 2024

Served on a tortilla to make it a wrap
